  • 1. Mortified!

    by: fefez

I am absolutely mortified that this shelter was rated one of the top 20 on Zootoo.com. My mom rescued a kitten from here as a surprise for me when I lived out of state. The kitten was SO sick when I got it that we had to take it to an emergency room, and that was only 1 day after my mom picked the kitten up at Cat Nap. My cousin went in to rescue a kitten and he was pushed into taking two home. One had such a bad eye infection that he lost an eye (before my cousin rescued him), and the other is partially blind because of the eye infections. The woman guaranteed that the kittens are not adopted out if they are sick. My cousin had to spend $400 + on one vet visit because the kittens were so sick. He had to give them medicine, eye drops and ear drops for 2 weeks. He called her because of the guarantee and no one ever returned his phone call. I tell everyone I know not to go here. If the owner was HONEST and ran a reputable business, it would be great to rescue a cat from here. But I HIGHLY recommend going elsewhere to save a kitty life.

  • 4. LOVE THEM!

    by: EllieFunt

My children love going to visit this shelter. We were going to adopt a kitten at one time and they were so patient with us there. Most shelters don't like adopting out kittens to people with small children. But Cat Nap understand and carefully interviews parents & children to be sure of a safe match. The people working/volunteering there are truly animal lovers!

    Pros

    Wonderful staff

    Cons

    can't think of one!

  • 5. Amazing!!!!!

    by: Prevost1580

Kudos to these fine folks! So humane & such a blessing to the kitties :) Cats get such a bum rap :( finally they get a shelter of their own & the attention that they deserve ;)

    Pros

Cats everywhere need a heavenly place for kitties, like this one.

    Cons

There isn't one in my State :(

  • 6. Parsley Found A Home

    by: 4arose

This place brought the love of our and our pet rabbit, Peter's life into our home. She has been truly a blessing. They have an awesome deal with PetsMart to house adoptables there for others to adopt to free up space at their shelter which they like most shelters could use $ for a bigger shelter which unfortanely is the result of irresponsible pet owners. I would adopt again there and the staff has always been nice to me.

    Pros

The animals looked well taken care of!

    Cons

    It was crowded!

  • 7. Excellent Shelter

    by: margetoo

I have used this shelter for years when I lived in LaGrange. When I moved to Missouri and returned to the LaGrange area for visits, I always make a point of visiting. I have adopted two (2) additional cats from this shelter and brought them to Missouri. Bobbi Meyer and her staff are excellent. They are knowledgable, kind and very good to all of their animals. Bobbie definitely needs a new facility. She works very hard to keep this shelter clean and "top notch"; sometimes it is difficult when you are working with such a small space. She is so kind and tries to make accommodations for any stray animal; and if she cannot take them into her shelter always checks with other facilities and gets them a good home.

    Pros

    Knowledgable staff

    Cons

    Needs larger facility

  • 8. CatNap is a part of our family

    by: Bohemia68

Both of my daughters volunteered for CatNap as teenagers and young adults. They were always bringing home cats and critters in need of temporary care. Several animals ended up becoming permanent residents! Right now my eldest daughter is fostering a rabbit and a guinea pig. Lord knows what she will bring home next. For better or worst, CatNap is a part of our family!

    Pros

near to my house, educated staff and volunteers, loving pets

    Cons

hard to get away, foster pets that end up staying

    Pros

    Cons

Unfortunately is too small for the work they are doing

  • 10. Glad a local shelter is in the top 20

Very nice shelter. The staff truly cares about each and every one of the animals. I hope Cat Nap wins the makeover. They really need more space so they can take in more animals. Kudos to all the staff for being so wonderful and caring with both the animals and the folks who come to see you all.

    by: tabithag

The kitties from Cat Nap from the Heart are well socialized and very playful. The foster families associated with Cat Nap do a great job in preparing the kitties for their new homes by giving them lots of love and care. The shelter has a very dedicated and compassionate staff who do their best to match the needs of their customers with the personalities of the kitties in the shelter. I love Cat Nap and the work they are doing!

    Pros

    Compassionate Staff

    Cons

    by: TinaGrotzke

I love this shelter, they are the best. They know each of there kitties so well and are very knowledgable about the kitties needs. All of their adoptees are health checked, vaccinated, neutered or spayed and microchipped prior to adoption. I would recommend them if you are looking for a new addition to your house. They have so many cats of every color and size that need homes.

    by: blackkat932

I have visited Cat Nap, & I have known Bobbi Meyer for many years, & I am amazed at their continual energy & enthusiasm for changing with the times for the benefit of felines! I truly admire their determination & ambition for animal welfare. Cat Nap has captured not only my heart, but also my deep respect! Keep up the great work! Most sincerely, Kathy Blackwell of Lombard, IL

    Pros

striving for animal welfare regardless of any limitations

    Cons

not having enough resources to fulfill long-term goals

  • 20. High Achievers

    by: pammyf

This shelter has successfully reduced the stray cat population in the surrounding area by taking in strays and their babies and finding them good homes. They need a bigger facility and some funding for low-cost spay and neuter programs.

    Pros

    very knowledgeable staff

    Cons

    needs more space

  • 21. Amazing

    by: dubois1212

My friend from Illinois told me about this shelter that somebody he knows runs, and I had to check it out. Let me say, I love animals, and love being around them. Sadly I can't have pets in my apartment building, but I love being around them. When I was traveling through Illinois I stopped by to check out the place. I was impressed from pulling up to the lot. I had already felt compelled to go in and visit the animals, and the warm friendly atmosphere continued when I was in there. I wish i could comment on the process, but I'm certain if I were to adopt an animal from here it would be great, and I would be taken care of perfectly by their staff. Thanks for the visit!

    Pros

    Incredibly friendly, and caring staff

    Cons

too many cute animals to not take home!

  • 22. Cat Nap is Great!

    by: julielill

We have adopted three cats in the last few years and the last two were from Cat Nap. The staff helped up pick out the cats and we got two great cats from them. I reccomended them to my friend when she was looking for a rabbit. She went and adopted a rabbit and even came home with a bird. You could not find a nicer shelter anywhere.

    Pros

    Staff is great help!

    Cons

    None.

    Cons

    Desperately needs more space!

  • 24. Thank you CatNap

    by: Cheryl4166

Thanks to Bobbi and CatNap I adopted two wonderful cats 5 years ago. My children were thrilled (they just recently learned they were adopted, always thought they were from Santa!) Bobbi was very easy to work with, the center was clean and inviting, and I couldn't have been happier. When we're ready for our third I will definetely go back to Catnap!

    Pros

    Staff, Cleanliness

    Cons

  • 25. Amazing

    by: JoyceCarlson

I have been a supporter of Cat Nap for a number of years now, and when my lifestyle permitted - - in a volunteer capacity. I had the chance to see Cat Nap as an insider. They are a very dedicated and hardworking group of people, completely committed to their cause. I have one cat that I adopted from Cat Nap, and have referred many of my friends there. I am comfortable knowing that the staff at Cat Nap will go out of their way to ensure that the adoption is perfect - for both the owner and the cat.

    Pros

    Friendly, knowledgeable, committed

    Cons

    Need more space

  • 26. Great Place

    by: clpodol

We found Cat Nap through an internet search for shelters in our area. We were impressed by the knowledge that Bobbi had about cats in general and all her cats in residence. All the animals at Cat Nap are well taken care of. My mom was able to find a companion for herself and a year later, after losing 2 of our 3 cats in one week, we found brothers to liven up our empty home. We couldn't be happier with Cat Nap From The Heart and recommend it highly.

    Pros

No kill shelter for cats, birds and small mammals

    Cons

Needs more room to help more animals

  • 27. CatNap From the Heart-The Little Shelter That Could

    by: jancass90

I am a new volunteer for CatNap. Bobbi, her staff and volunteers are very dedicated to providing a safe, clean and caring environment for cats and critters. I am proud to be a part of this shelter because there is a sense of deep dedication for animals that can not care or defend themselves. A shelter that keeps going expressing the true, good and the beautiful.

    Pros

    Great Shelter

    Cons

  • 28. Cat Nap is Awesome!

    by: dinasanchez67

My daughters and I have been volunteering with Cat Nap from the Heart for years! Their staff and volunteers are some of the most dedicated I have seen in ten years of working with nonprofits. They are very careful about the families in which they place the animals, so that it is a good match for everyone. They are always willing to come up with new and different ideas to increase adoptions, as well as raise much-needed funds for this no-kill shelter. I wish every animal shelter was as dedicated as Bobbi Meyer and her staff.

    Pros

Cat Nap cares about strays & feral cats!

    Cons

    None

  • 29. The best place to adopt from

    by: agianco

This is a great shelter, and the only shelter I know of around Chicago that is willing to work with rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. So many other shelters just try to get them out the door, but the CatNappers know how to match them to the right homes and how to properly care for them.

    Pros

    Many small animals available

    Cons

Could use more space to house their animals

  • 30. Amazing Care.

    by: CatNapFrmTheHeartLvr

Cat Nap From The Heart is the most amazing animal shelter that I have ever been to. Simple as that. The cages are kept clean, the animals get their proper care, and the volunteers are wonderful!

    Pros

The animals are well taken care of, the animals are amazing, and everyone is always so nice!

    Cons

Sometimes there isn't enough room for all of the animals in need!

  • 31. Nice place

I picked up my first cat here last year. I had to go through a lengthy questionnaire, then an in-person interview. After that, I met a few suggested cats, and easily picked out my guy.

  • 32. CatNap Volunteer

    by: jagged34

I have been volunteering for about 1 1/2 years now at CatNap from the Heart. The volunteers are a small and very dedicated group. I was impressed at their knowledge of cats and cats' purrsonalities. I have learned so much and continue to learn the more I volunteer. The director, Bobbi, inspires me with her passion for all animals that come into the shelter. The animals are treated like pets, complete with names, not just a number or another homeless animal. When I'm ready to adopt a cat, you can bet I will go to CatNap and encourage all I meet to do the same.

    Pros

    Very knowledgable director and staff

    Cons

    The shelter space is small

  • 33. Super little Shelter

    by: GuyBarb

I love this little place for cats. The woman who runs it really cares about her charges. She is very knowledgeable and her staff works hard. I hope they win the contest at Zootoo. They REALLY deserve it. We adopted our cat a year and a half ago. We just love her to bits!! She has to be "with" all the time. She's very much a love sponge. My brother also adopted a cat from them. And that cat lives the good life! They are very happy.

    Pros

Great place to find a cat

    Cons

    they need more air circulation

  • 34. Inspiring Shelter

    by: RobinJensen

I've been a volunteer at Catnap for three years, and it still continues to impress me. It is so inspiring that even with such a limited space, Catnap From The Heart can make a difference in so many people's lives. The driving force of Catnap is the management's high expectations and attention to detail. This shelter deserves a makeover more than any other shelter I know.

    Pros

    Very friendly

    Cons

    Not enough space

  • 36. CatNap Really Cares about Cats

    by: nwjensen

My daughter has been a CatNap volunteer for several years and has learned so much. Bobbi has high expectations for the care of the animals, (they also have birds and small "critters" for adoption), and the result is a very clean, healthy shelter. I often stop in when picking up my daughter, and love to visit with the cats...they are all so friendly. I am glad that they are in a good shelter like CatNap, but really wish they could all be in loving homes...

    Pros

Clean facility, healthy cats and critters

    Cons

    None

  • 37. Cat Nap is a Wonderful Shelter

    by: EllieK

I got Mocha and Picasso from the Shelter two years ago this February. They have become such sweet companions. They wait for me to come home from work and just want to play all the time. I would recommend this shelter to anyone interested in adopting a cat, bird or small mammal. Ellen Kuzniar Downers Grove, IL

    Cons

  • 38. Very helpful

    by: ilenehopkins

A few years ago I found a litter of stray kittens in my yard. I really did not want to take them to the city pound, so I tried all the shelters in the metro Chicago area. CatNap was the only one to answer their phone and offer to help. I ended up giving the kittens to a neighbor, but I was so glad that catNap was so willing to take on these kittens if I needed their help. They are truly a great group of people

    Pros

    Willing to help[ stray animals

    Cons

Need more room and cage space availability

    by: KOWALCATS

THEIR DIRECTOR BOBBI MEYER IS A VERY CARING PERSON AND HER STAFF WILL ALWAYS TAKE THE TIME TO ANSWER ANY QUESTION YOU MAY HAVE. • 43. Caring, loving, clean shelter

    by: DeannaS

I found CatNap from the heart, at the Lincoln cat show. I found them to be very friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone looks like they enjoy what they do. We adopted 2 cats that day. I choose to go to the shelter to pick them up. Upon walking into the shelter I was amazed, it didn't smell. No smell of animals, a nice clean smell. Ahhh. Everyone remembered me. Bobbie and her team showed me around the shelter. I was so amazed at how clean the shelter is. All the cats look happy. I have been telling everyone if they want to adopt a cat they need to go to CatNap from the Heart. CatNap is truly from the Heart.

    Pros

    Loving, caring staff. Very clean.

    Cons

    Running out of space.

  • 44. Great Shelter

    by: timg

My wife and I adopted two cats on a trial basis from CatNap. They provided a complete starter kit with blankets, toys, and everything else we needed. I grew up with cats and dogs and really wanted pets. Unfortunately, my wife is very allergic to cats. We tried it for a week, but it was too much for her. In the end, we had to return the cats. It was really, really sad to send them back. Throughout the whole process, CatNap was understanding and great. We had looked at a bunch of other animal shelters in the Chicago area. CatNap was the most professional. Everyone there really loved cats.

    Pros

Very friendly, great prices, they love their cats

    Cons

    A bit crowded inside

  • 45. Wonderful Staff, Environment, and Care

    by: shasta8

I went to many scary shelters looking to adopt a cat and was amazed when I went to Cat Nap. I adopted both Sophie and Silas, a brother sister pair. They knew alot about their pets and were very helpful in determining who would be a good fit. I have had my little guys for 3 years now & they are doing great! I would recommend this place to anyone searching for a cat!

  • 49. The Real Deal

    by: shirlene

I am so proud to be a Cat Nap volunteer because I know that Bobbi and her staff really care very deeply for their charges and believe in their mission. I know that any money I help raise goes to good use and directly to the cause. This is an honest establishment that I know takes great care to place the right pets with the right people. Bobbi really has a knack for this. The only downside is that space is limited, as are funds and more volunteers would always be helpful so that the existing staff can get more done each day. With these things in place, Cat Nap could multiply it's efforts and do the great work they do for so many more beautiful creatures.

    Pros

A great place - I know, I volunteer for them and have fostered.

    Cons

Need more volunteers, space and donations!

  • 50. Very helpful and FLEXABLE

    by: JohnInNH

I am in NH and it's a 2 day drive for me. They were very helpful and spent hours with me setting up my adoption. They opened special on a Sunday EARLY AM so I could have more time to drive my 2 newly adopted cats back home to NH. Many e-mails.. Phone calls (and from her HOME!) A willingness to handle these 2 special needs cats and place them. I was amazed at the personal conviction, flexibility and passion they had for their "job." They need support to help handle the extra load on them. Please help them! I was amazed how clean it was with the # of animals they had. They SAVED the lives of my 2 boys by taking the extra step with these difficult abused cats. HATS OFF to them for taking the extra step! Some places would have just put them down as they were to difficult a case to handle. They spent the time and $ to save these beautiful abused animals. I am very grateful.

    Pros

Willing to take the extra step!

    Cons

    Long drive from me

  • 51. Great place to adopt

    by: kanisha

I have known this shelter for a long time and I adopted a cat from them years ago and a rabbit more recently. They are really good people and they need a makeover so they can get a bigger shelter and help some more pets.

    Pros

    Cons

They could use some more space

  • 52. Great Shelter For Cats and Small Critters

    by: wooday0691

I've visited this shelter. It's very clean and nice inside. They also take in birds and pocket pets, in addition to cats. I like that they are no kill and they provide medical care for the older cats they have.

    Pros

Freindly staff, very clean, cats well cared for

    Cons

wish they had one day with evening hours

  • 53. Catnap from the Heart-wonderful

    by: Camaren

I have nothing but good to say about this shelter. The knowledge and passion that Bobbi and staff have for animals is unmatched. Finding a cat or other animals a good home has to be a good fit for both animal and family. Bobbi has this uncanny skill to match animal with family. She knows the behavior and personalities of all the animals in the shelter. Bobbi ask questions about your lifestyle, and other animal members of your family. It is all about a good fit for both. Eight years ago I adopted my then 4 year old orange tabby Ricky from Catnap. What a wonderful fit, what a wonderful cat. I have sent everyone I know who wanted a cat to the Catnap. I then hear how impressed they were with the shelter and cat adopted. My daughters and I have all volunteered for years when we can. This shelter is truly passionate for the well-being of animals.

    Pros

truly passionate for the well-being of the animals

    Cons

    needs a larger facility

  • 54. Beat cat shelter in the area

    by: Holtz128

Best no-kill cat shelter in the area. They are really and asset to the community. I hope they win a much deserved makeover. I know they would put the funds to good use helping more cats find forever homes.

    Pros

very clean, cats well cared for, the take in pocket pets and birds too

    Cons

they could use more space to take in more cats

  • 55. What great cats!

    by: Wolfrider

What perfect animals, there is a fit for everyone. I needed a young man to keep my old lady active. Boo is the perfect addition to my family. Asyr is engaging him, and keeping him on his toes. She has already lost her favorite spots to her new brother (my bed and the lazyboy recliner).

    Pros

Cat Naps knew which cat would fit my family style best.

    Cons

I couldn't say no. All those faces, someone was going home with me.

    Cons

Can be busy on big adoption days, but wait is worth it.

  • 57. Great

  • 58. What a great asset to our group!

    by: emiles

We have a TNR (Trap Neuter Return) group, CatVando, we work to control, reduce and care for the overpopulation of street cats. Sometimes we get kittens. Bobbi has been an excellent resource for helping us care for the kittens and sometimes, when space permits even takes some of our kittens! She's always been willing to answer any of our questions, whether about kittens or volunteers, and we appreciate her knowledge and dedication to animals and to those of us who work with animals.

    Pros

    Common sense knowledge

    Cons

    they need more space

  • 59. Truly caring shelter

I adopted both of my cats at this shelter. The reason I chose to go to Catnap was the fact that they are an honest no-kill shelter. The cats don't have a time limit to find a home. Any and all cats are taken in, and they will rescue cats from other kill shelters. Unfortunately this means that the shelter is usually crowded, but no cat is turned away. The only problem at this shelter is that the number of abandoned and surrendered cats increases faster than the number that get adopted. My cats are absolutely wonderful, and I can't thank Catnap enough for rescuing Mags from a kill shelter and taking in Bo's litter despite the fact that his mother was feral. They are the greatest cats and love them more than words can describe

    Pros

    A true non-kill shelter

    Cons

the number of homeless animals continues to grow, which means the number of cats they have grows

  • 61. Cat Nap is the greatest!

    by: Beausmommy

I adopted my kitten (well, he's no kitten anymore) from Cat Nap in Oct. 2007. I walked in and walked out less than 30 minutes later with the love of my life. Cat Nap helped make the process simple and fun. My family also adopted a kitten from there almost 10 years ago so we definitely trust the place. I would recommend it to anyone in the Chicago western suburbs looking to adopt a healthy, loving cat or kitten.

    Pros

    Friendly, helpful, close location

    Cons

Too many cats to choose from :(

  • 62. CatNap From The Heart is the best shelter

    by: catmom48

I began my relationship with CatNap From The Heart in January of 2008. I'd been searching on-line for a cat. My home had been kitty-less for 6 months after I had to put down my beloved Simon. I found Pepper at CatNap. It was love at first sight. It was also a perfect match thanks to the staff. Also had to board Pepper there several times; they took excellent care of him. In Nov, 2008, I adopted two more wonderful felines. Again, a perfect placement of a bonded pair. I recommend this shelter to anyone seriously looking to adopt a cat, hamster, gerbil, bunny, guinea pig, or bird. You can be assured of a good match. Animals are well cared for and cages are clean.

    Pros

Caring staff wants to find right homes for critters

    Cons

    Parking is limited

  • 63. Must love cats!!!

    by: Softbalchick216

If you're looking for a cat this is the right place to be. Many to choose from if it's color, size, age, or gender they probably have it and all they want is your love for them.

    Pros

    Many cats to choose from

    Cons

Too many cats without homes :(

  • 64. Cat Adoption Experience

    by: CatnapDon

We're a couple in our early fifties with no kids and previously, no pets. Our God-daughter loves animals but her father is allergic to all animal fur. So, we went to Catnap and fell in love with a 2 1/2 year old cat named Matt. A month later, we adopted Maggie, a 2 year old for a companion. They are truly a wonderful addition to our household. The Catnap team was tremendously helpful in the whole process. Bobbi Meyer was referred by one of her team as "the best cat matcher in the business" (i.e. cats to people and other cats) He was right on the money. I am so impressed with the organization that I have volunteered to work there and hope to work with their board to bring an expanded (both size and capability) to fruition.

    Pros

Really great team of people working there

    Cons

    Small and crowded

  • 65. Thanks for my kitten!

    by: Ranita

CatNap from the Heart introduced me to my new kitten, originally named Bandit, but now re-christened Carlos Luigi. I did not visit the shelter itself, but adopted my cat through an adoption event they were holding in downtown Chicago. My kitten already had all his shots, was neutered, and they gave me a little kitten packet with food samples and information etc. to take home with me. My kitten is now my best friend, and I'm really glad I found CatNap from the Heart!

    Pros

Friendly and knowledgable staff with lots of tips for my new kitten

    Cons

Far away from where I live

  • 69. Shelter knowledge

    by: binky123

I have learned so much about shelters. I never had any real insight to how a shelter operates. It was a real eye opener and has taught me a lot about the not-so-common diseases of cats, the medications to treat them, and the many hard hours CatNap devotes to helping cats get healthy (those with health issues) and going out of their way to make sure the cats are given the best of care, and a fighting chance to become someone's beloved pet. My only regret is that I an unable to take home all the cats who have so many personalities that make them unforgettable! I am also comforted by the fact that the cats have decent warm, clean quarters, nutritional food, and are carefully monitored by a knowledgable, conscientious staff.

    Pros

    Helpful, clean, healthy kitties

    Cons

I hope someday they will have more space so that more cats can be helped!

  • 70. Catnap is Great!!

    by: Carauch

My daughter and I recently went to Cat Nap from the Heart to donate a bunny cage and supplies. We were extremely impressed with the facility. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The entire facility is spotless. All the animals are very well cared for and are in very clean cages with fresh food and water. After being there for a couple of hours, we found and adopted a wonderful new addition to our family, a kitty named Domino, who we've renamed Georgie. \r\n\r\nI highly recommend Cat Nap from the Heart. I will definitely adopt from there in the future. \r\n\r\nMichelle Parlier\r\nMcHenry, IL

  • 72. Catnap is the Best!!

    by: karauch

I adopted my cat Charlie over 4 and 1/2 years ago from Catnap. I went in there looking for a cute little calico cat and ended up with a very timid large orange cat. As it turns out Charlie has been a fantastic addition to our house and after he got over his timidness he has turned out to be a great cat. Bobbi does a fantastic job in matching the cats to their prospective owners. She treats all the cats there as if they were her own.

    Pros

Bobbi and her staff really care about the cats!!!

    Cons

Very tight quarters for all the cats and small animals residing there.

  • 73. Chicagoland's Most Deserving Shelter 2008 - 09

    by: drummergrrl

This no-kill shelter takes in as many cats, small animals, and birds as possible. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and caring. It is located in a close western suburb and has very easy parking. If you are looking to adopt a cat, please consider CatNap first since it is in a small building and it is currently packed with cats. I also love Tree House Shelter in Chicago - but, Tree House has the benefit of two much larger buildings.

    Pros

    Volunteers are knowledgeable and kind

    Cons

    Shelter isn't big enough

  • 74. Best Shelter Ever

    by: springsmom

I went in a year and half ago to get my first cats as an adult. They were so helpful and helped me a pick cats that fit my lifestyle. I went in only wanting one cat but feel in love with a bonded pair. They even knocked off some money on the adoption fee because I took older bonded cats. They give you all you need for the cats. My cats came microchipped and very healthy. I could not be happier with my experience at catnap. I highly reccommend it

    Pros

    Great staff! Great Cats!

    Cons

a little cramped.. they need the makeover!

  • 75. Adopt today

    by: jmshourd

I have helped with the animals at Catnap for four years now and have seen many wonderfull adopions. The most important thing there is to adopt the right cat to the right household for the right reasons. I have seen great success with very limited resources. A shelter remodel would benefit many animals now and in the future.

    Pros

    Many

    Cons

    Need more space

  • 76. Love this place!

    by: kamill24

The adoption process was a good experience. I choose Harlo and was able to take him home in the same day! I had been visiting for a couple months before I adopted Harlo and the folks there were always kind and let me take my time making a decision.

    Pros

    by: Ravenheart

When you walk into this shelter, you are not overcome by the distinct smell of cat. They keep this place super clean. Cats are all happy and get time out to play. Not only do they have cats for adoption, but birds and small animals as well. If I could ever have another cat again, this is where I will go.

    Pros

    Super Clean and friendly enviroment

    Cons

    Absolutely nothing

Both of my kids volunteered at CatNap all through high school, and we adopted three cats from CatNap. The internship program here was very influential on my son, and it was a huge help in getting him accepted to vet school! The entire staff is wonderful and so dedicated to the care of the cats and other animals. They work with so little room but so much love.

    Pros

    Wonderful place

    Cons

They need more room...and a shelter makeover!

  • 79. CatNap volunteer for 10 years!

    by: Bellacat3

I've been a CatNap volunteer for 10 years. It is through CatNap and Bobbi (shelter director) that I first learned about our nation's pet overpopulation problem. My three cats and two parakeets were adopted from CatNap and I frequently foster kittens and guinea pigs for the shelter.\r\n\r\nI love CatNap because they truelly care about the animals in their care. Each homeless pet receives a name, not just a number, when they first enter the shelter. Every pet is treated as an individual and is given time to adjust to shelter life. The staff's committment to the well-being and health of every shelter pet is noteworthy. CatNap takes care of all healthy and treatable pets until a new home is found - there is no time limit!\r\n\r\nI also use CatNap's boarding services when I am away from home. My cats do very well at CatNap and I am free from worrying about their care while I am away. The staff takes my instructions and concerns to heart and treats my pets as though they were their own.

    Pros

All pets are treated with respect and kindess. Staff and volunteers take the time to get to know all homeless pets in their care.

    Cons

Small shelter - need more room! Sometimes you have to wait a while before a staff member can speak with you.

It is a wonderful place. I find myself always wanting to go over there and check in on my favorite cats. everyone there loves each cat and cares for them very well. They really want to find a good home for their animals. I have adopted one cat from The Cat Nap and she is the greatest cat I have ever met. My aunt also adopted from here, but unfortunately was unable to keep them do to allergies, and they took the cats back, no questions asked. They even seemed happy to see those familiar faces again. This is a great place, and I am expecting to adopt my next cat from here as well.

There are alot of dedicated people that are associated with this shelter and all make each animal comfortable and feel loved until the right home comes along.\r\n They are quite crowded right now and could REALLY use the money for a shelter makeover.

  • 88. CATNAP FROM THE HEART - WONDERFUL SHELTER

    by: eshrops

Catnap from the Heart is a small shelter that adopts out cats, as well as small animals such as gerbils, hamsters and rabbits ,and also boards. The shelter is immaculate and cleaning is constant. There are resident birds who provide interest for the cats. The director knows them well so she can make a good match and I like it that they offer a week's trial so potential adopters can see how the cat acts in a home before making a committment.

    Pros

Very clean, great care for cats and small animals

    Cons

    Needs more room!

  • 89. Best animal shelter EVER!

    by: corrinepooh

I picked up my first two cats form Cat Nap six years ago. They were brother and sister. The sister passed away of a cancerous tumor last Christmas. It was inoperable. Her brother was devastated. We were crushed. We came back to Cat Nap. I told them what happened, and they cried they were so sad. A lady went in the back, then came up front and handed me a cat. "This is the perfect one for you," she said. We took that sweet little girl home. She was about a year old. No one can replace the baby we lost, but Cat Nap helped us through a difficult time. We love our new little girl, Ivy, and so does her brother, Sniffles. Words can't describe what this shelter has meant to us.

    Pros

    Everything

    Cons

Too many wonderful animals to choose from!

  • 90. A Great Plave to Intern/Volunteer

    by: deets24

If you're looking to give a cat a home, the adoption counselors are pros at helping you find a cat that is suited perfectly for you. \nAlso, volunteering at CatNap is a ton of fun and really rewarding. If you're looking to go into the veterinary field, interning at CatNap is a great way to get some hands-on experience in handling cats and in monitoring their health. Bobbi gives high school and college students the help they need to get their foot in the door of the animal care field. Overall, CatNap is just a great place for the animals and for the people who love animals.

    Pros

    Adoption counselors are Great!

    Cons

    Too small

  • 91. If you LOVE cats (Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Birds) this is your place!

    by: HeyMIC

I am still dreaming about the black and white big ol' cat who kept rubbing against to the cage so I could pet him. We certainly were soul mates.\r\n\r\nThe folks here are so nice and kind to both people and animals . . . there is no greater joy than to have even a moment of relationship with people and trusting animals. Cared for incredibly well, these animals are so stable that even the disruption of a cage cleaning does not set them off.\r\n\r\nI love visiting this shelter, even if an animal takes over my heart for days after. If you cannot find an animal to love here, you cannot find an animal to \r\nlove . . .

    Pros

If you can't find an animal to love here, you are just way too picky!

    Cons

It's was too easy to find an animal to love here!

  • 92. Great shelter

  • 93. GREAT SHELTER , TRUE ANIMAL LOVERS

    by: BENBUG

THE CATNAP FROM THE HEART IS A GREAT SHELTER FOR ADOPTING CATS. MY FAMILY AND I ADOPTED TWO CATS FROM CATNAP OVER TWO YEARS AGO AND I MUST TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE THE MOST LOVING CATS WE HAVE EVER HAD. I THINK THIS SHELTER DESERVES TO WIN THE MAKEOVER. BOBBI AND HER STAFF ARE A GROUP OF DEDICATED INDIVIDUALS AND THEY DESERVE THE BEST. I WOULD RECCOMEND ADOPTING A CAT FROM CATNAP FROM THE HEART. THEY ALSO HAVE SMALL ANIMALS ( GUINEA PIGS, RABBITS) AND BIRDS THAT ARE ALSO UP FOR ADOPTION.

    Pros

    VERY FRIENDLY

    Cons

    SMALL SPACE

  • 94. A Great Help

    by: Smillsap5

A few years ago my mom found an abandoned litter of five newly born in our backyard. There was no way that we could keep any of them. We called CatNap and they explained what we should do to keep them alive (food and general care of the kittens) and less then a day later the shelter was ready to accept them from us. We were relieved to find somewhere that wouldn't euthanize them.

    Pros

Provides great care for small animals.

    Cons

The building is too small, and a bit nondescript.

  • 95. Everything but the dog!

    by: nostrilb

I found Catnap after seeing their rabbits at PetSmart. Being a cat shelter, it impressed me that they also take small animals and birds. They really care about the animals, which is great, but sometimes the customer service is lacking. Help people, and they will adopt! I was asked to take a special needs guinea pig, and I am so happy I was asked. He has been a joy for us. He was well taken care of at Catnap, and it makes me happy to help. Still waiting to hear back on 2 volunteer opps that I was going to help with, they need a volunteer coordinator.

    Pros

All types of animals, except dogs, the shelter puts the animals first

    Cons

Staff is not really as helpful as they could be, and it is hard to set-up volunteering

  • 96. Great place for small mammals

    by: mike112

When I decided to get gerbils as pets, I wanted to adopt rather than get them from a pet store. I found CatNap through Petfinder, and I was amazed at how many small mammals they have for adoption. After talking with Bobbi, the shelter director, I can tell that they do really great things. They have a lot of cats too, and I wish they had more space so they could help more animals!

    Pros

Lots to choose from, knowledgeable staff,

    Cons

    They need more space

  • 97. Amazing Shelter

Great shelter if you would ever consider adopting a cat or even other small aniimals! I've adopted a cat from here and it's the best cat I've ever had. I highly reccomend visiting this shelter. The buildings a little small, however, which would make it a great candidate for that million dollars ;)

    Pros

Great service and offering of cats

    Cons

    Very small shelter

  • 98. Great place to adopt!

    by: mrosser25

CatNap does great things for La Grange Park and the surrounding communities -- they are a no-kill shelter, they are willing to help with the pet overpopulation problem, and they do great adoptions. I have adopted three cats and three gerbils from CatNap, and I couldn't be happier with them. Though the facility is small, they do what they can. This is a great place to adopt from.

    Pros

Many cats for adoption, knowledgeable staff

    Cons

They need a larger building to continue their great work!

  • 99. A great local shelter

    by: jello1

I have adopted several animals from the shelter. I have always found the owner and staff to be courteous and knowledgeable. There have been over-crowding issues in the past (which a Makeover could help), but these seem to be improving. \n\nThe screening of prospective owners is thorough. When I adopted I was recontacted a few days later to see how the animal was adjusting. I would recommend this shelter for the staff as much as for the animals.

    Pros

    convenient, knowledgeable

    Cons

needs more space to handle the ever expanding population

You are now a non profit, you continue plugging along even though the cat population continues to grow and you want to expand. Also, I liked your name. Keep hanging in there folks - it's hard at times, but we do make a difference even if it is only one cat at a time.
