  • 1. CAT: If only every shelter could be this cool

    by: LenoreDarko

If only there were more shelters in the world like C.A.T.! I love this place, and will always recommend them if someone is looking for a new fur-ever friend. Everyone is so dedicated!

    Pros

They are a godsend to cats in need

    Cons

    None!

  • 2. I love the C.A.T.

    by: lhzander

The first time I went into the C.A.T. we had just planned to look around and check it out. We fell in love with the place as well as our first cat. We took him home right away. Since then we've visited many times to hang out with cats, and also ended up adopting a playmate for our first cat. All our friends and family that we have brought to C.A.T. say that it's the nicest, cleanest shelter they have been in. I believe it's very inviting, the staff really want to help out the cats and get them in good homes, and it's a nice place for the cats to stay while they are waiting for their homes. Go check it out for yourself!

    Pros

Very inviting, clean, saves cats lives!

    Cons

None, except of course any shelter is too small for the huge number of cats that need a home :(

  • 3. Awesome

    by: kristyloo19

I've never been to CAT to adopt a cat (although I will in a few months), but rather as a volunteer. They just know how to get things done. All of the staff know what they're doing and what needs to get done. The facility is gorgeous, especially the painted rooms. I don't know if they need a makeover, but I hope they get one so that they can use that money they were using on the facility before to help the kitties!

    Pros

no-kill shelter that takes in so many cats

    Cons

    not enough volunteers

  • 4. you guys rock!

you guys do a great job for the kitties!\r\nwhat a wonderful write up you have - your facility looks beautiful.\r\nI love that you focus on only cats. And, I love that you take OTHER shelter's cats when you can.\r\nYou get the sick and neglected kitties better and find them homes!\r\ngreat job! Good luck

    Pros

love the pictures of your building!

    Cons

    none

  • 5. CATS is amazingly wonderful

    by: Carolynabby

My father has volunteered for them and loved it. We have adopted from one of their fosterhomes and have visited the facility and they where very careful of meeting the needs of the cats and kittens. I love this program and option for kitty's. I hope to see them expand. I love that they have foster homes and reach out to the public for the education and assistance to the cats.

    Pros

Hope for all Cats with love

    Cons

there needs to be more room

  • 6. CAT works hard!

    Cons

  • 8. A Fantastic Place To Meet Your New Friend

    by: stephaniesilver

This is a shelter that definitely revolves around the most important individuals, the cats. The common room is a place where cats and people can interact and get to know one another in a comfortavle environment. Everything about the shelter says to a first time visitor: "We love our animals and we have their best interests at heart". I would love to see this shelter win this contest because even though the animals are well cared for and happy, and the staff are fantastically dedicated, the place has wear and tear that should be addressed. These animals, some kittens and some adults that may never see a forever home, should have a more comfortable and more inviting atmosphere. I would love to see more spacious areas for the kitties to wait while visitors look them over and more space for interaction with possible adopters.

    Pros

    Very Feline Interactive

    Cons

    Needs Sprucing Up

  • 9. Truly amazing place

    by: wjconnel

I have been volunteering here for several months now, and have found this place to be truly inspiring. It has turned me from being a cat fan to being a cat maniac! There are so many beautiful, friendly cats here who need homes, and receive loving care every day. The staff go above and beyond on a daily basis.

    Pros

    No Kill, loving and clean

    Cons

    none

  • 13. WONDERFUL PLACE

    by: katcrook45

This is a wonderful organization - friendly, caring people, great services. For how many cats they have in their main location, they do a great job of keeping them healthy and happy. They need more room though - so many more cats are out there that need help. Their outreach locations are always clean and increases the chance that these deserving cats find a good home.

    Pros

easy to find, cats to outreach locations, great care

    Cons

need more room for more cats!

  • 16. Safe Haven for Cats

    by: 22257ljo

C.A.T takes in cats regardless of circumstances. Abandoned cats, strays, animal shelter residents, private party releases are all welcome at the shelter. Cats with health issues are never turned away and the veterinary staff does everything in their power to provide the needed medical attention. But C.A.T. goes beyond that. If the patient can't be treated at the in-house vet hopital, C.A.T will seek treatment outside and makes sure the cat gets the proper medical care. Once healthy, every effort is made to find a forever home for each cat. Adoptions are handled with care to make sure that the family and the cat are a good match. If for some reason the arrangement does not work, C.A.T. will work with the family to find a better match. I researched C.A.T. for over a year, reading every article I could find and watching their website. Once I was convinced that this was the real deal, my husband and I attended a Volunteer Training Session and now volunteer our time as caregivers. We have been impressed with the absolute love and caring displayed by everyone at C.A.T for our feline friends. The focus is all about the cats; their daily care, their dietary needs, their mental and physical health, and ultimately finding that right fit in a forever home. It's good to know that until the right fit comes along that the kitties have a safe haven.

    Pros

Over 3000 adoptions in 2007! Speaks for their success...

    Cons

Shelter needs updating and more room for vet hospital

  • 17. Good Job

  • 18. Cat Adoption Team, Sherwood, Oregon

    by: fjbaron

Evan Kalik be turning a dream into reality when he started CAT in Sherwood, Oregon and formalized his unabiding love for kitties.\r\n\r\nI have had a cat as a friend since my parents brought me home from my birth and my current friend, companion, saver of my optimism in spite of all of life's travails was saved from euthanasia by CAT. KiKi The Wonder Cat found me at CAT's Sher wood Shelter in September, 2001, and and I am blessed.\r\n\r\nThe amazing thing about CAT is it's complete intake, rehabilitation, in house and outreach care giving and ou treach programs.

    Pros

Founded by a profoundly compassionate person whose love for all critters is without boundaries. Evan has dedicated his life to CAT and its goals!

    Cons

None - unless the inability to help and find homes for ALL the world's cats in need is a fault!

  • 19. Great for the cats

I love C.A.T.! It's about a 30min drive from my house, but I like to go there sometimes just to hang out with the cats for a while. I'd adopt them all is I could, but my husband would kill me! LOL. Keep up the great work you guys!

    Pros

Wonderful staff, amazing place with a worthy cause

    Cons

    NONE

  • 22. Impressive and Caring Organization

    by: desings1982

My nephew has volunteered for them and they trained him in how to handle and care for the animals. \r\n\r\nThe shelter building is not easily accessible for those with disabilities, i.e. stairs and small hallways. They desperately need a new building! \r\n\r\nThe staff are friendly and caring. They are very knowledgable about the animals they care for. They do good work!

    Pros

They care deeply for the animals in their care.

    Cons

Their facilities are not big enough!

  • 23. Thanks,CAT

    Pros

    Cons

    Needs more shelter space

  • 24. C.A.T. is the Best

    by: ann1mom

The Cat Adoption Team is a wonderful volunteer based effort to stem the tide of unwanted cats and to find safe loving homes for abandoned felines. They have a no kill policy, a full hospital, a Fostering program, and do amazing community outreach work to inform and inspire.

    Pros

The non-profit cat shelter is a great resource is our commiunity.

    Cons

Needs a makeover to accomodate even more cats.

  • 25. CAT is a wonderful place to find a feline friend

    by: juliamulv

I have worked at CAT for about 10 months now as a veterinary assistant. There are so many different kinds of kitties available for adoption, it is hard not to take a new friend home every day! I have two cats from CAT now, and they bring me endless joy and entertainment. The foster care program is amazing, as well as the rehabilitation program for the many sick cats. CAT saves lives every day, and I am proud to be a part of this organization.

    Pros

Cats of all ages and personalities to adopt!

    Cons

Not enough room to house them all, CAT deserves the makeover!

  • 26. CAT is Our Favorite Animal Non-Profit

    by: brfischer

We have been supporters of CAT since they opened. Out 17 1/2 year-old cat died a few weeks ago, and it felt good to take her unopened cat food to the shelter. We know it will be put to good use.\r\n\r\nCAT is always in our thoughts, and later this year we will adopt a new friend from them.\r\n\r\n

    Pros

    Loving, caring staff

    Cons

Too many cats needing homes and not enough adopters.

  • 27. Wonderful shelter

    by: Lynnbead

I have many friends who have adopted through Cat Adoption Team and a co-worker who volunteers. I plan on adopting my next pet and volunterring when my job permits.\r\n\r\nGreat job!!

    Pros

Great place to find a pet

    Cons

    None

  • 28. Wonderful Group of People

    by: mandiparr

I always recomend this place whenever I hear of someone who is looking into adopting a cat because this shelter does so much good for the abandoned cats they take in. I have not personally adopted from them yet but when the time comes and I am ready to adopt another cat, I will be there. Any shelter that has other options for cats besides euthinizing them is a good place to me.

    Pros

They don't put the cats to sleep like other shelters

    Cons

    none

  • 29. PAWS-itively the best shelter ever!

    by: jsrutz

CAT is an extremely impressive organization that started from very humble beginnings. But because of the dedication of staff and volunteers it has grown trememdously. In fact 2007 was a record-breaking year for the Cat Adoption Team. CAT saw growth in adoptions, spay/neuter surgeries, volunteerism, and donations. Here are some examples of their growth:\r\n\r\nIn 2007 CAT had \r\n* 3,129 adoptions (10% increase) \r\n* 2,267 cats coming to CAT's shelter from other shelters, organizations, veterinary clinics (33% increase) \r\n* 2,571 spay/neuter surgeries (22% increase) with 414 of those for the public or other organizations (63% increase) \r\n* 380 active volunteers (5.5% increase) \r\n* 1,463 cats/kittens cared for by foster volunteers (14% increase) \r\n\r\nThat's a lot to be proud of and just think how much more they could do if they only had the space.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Pros

The most caring and knowledgeable staff and volunteers you could ever hope to find

    Cons

They could really use a shelter make-over. More space would mean more lives for them to save

  • 30. C.A.T. - a great cat shelter

    by: RcatsSwiglo

My husband and I have 2 cats from the Cat Adoption Team. Especially since adopting our most recent cat, Perseus, I have felt a strong connection with this organization. They truly want to help all cats and raise awareness of issues associated with cat overpopulation, care, and the general wellbeing of cats. The main shelter in Sherwood is a neat place with free-roam rooms, windows for the cats to look out of, and a nice gift store too. It is in need of repair and remodel, which is why I want to help them reach the top 20.

    Pros

No-kill shelter, cats only, outreach locations, great website,...

    Cons

Main shelter is a little far from me!

  • 31. Shelter is Awesome

    by: Jayknee

I just began working here as a CVT 5 months ago and have been nothing but impressed with the hard work and attitude of EVERYONE at C.A.T.--from my fellow hospital staff to the shelter staff, to the volunteers, adoption counselors, outreach coordinators, foster parents, etc. It just amazes me how big a network is involved and how dedicated everyone is. It is a tremendous high to see a cat with an acute or long-term illness gradually return to bright-eyed health, and then be adopted into a loving home. This is truly a one-of-a-kind place, and we could do even more life-saving with a newly-renovated & -equipped building...

    Pros

    So many cats saved...

    Cons

    ...so little space!

  • 32. C.A.T. shelter

Visit their website where dreams do come true, www.catadoptionteam.org

    Pros

    Non-kill animal shelter

    Cons

    Need to extend their space

  • 34. C.A.T. Adoption Team

    by: harrisop

C.A.T. Adoption Team is proof of Angels on earth.\r\nI have fostered for C.A.T. going on four years.\r\n\r\n I have learned so much from this experiance not only has my knowledge of cats increased. Most of all I have witnessed the dedicated mentors, Vets. and counselors that C.A.T. has on staff at all times. \r\n\r\nThey are always doing whatever it takes to save another cat or kitten. Providing top professional care in every way. They put much planning into every adoption doing the very best to match a pet with a good permanent home. Sitting down with the adoptive family and making sure they are educated before the adoption is final. \r\n\r\nI will never forget the counselor that guided me to my very cherished female cat that I adopted from C.A.T. \r\nI am so grateful that these people care so much for the lives that depend on them. THANK YOU C.A.T. Adoption Team.

    Pros

    Top Notch No Kill Shelter

    Cons

Need is great for yet a bigger shelter to take in more cats

  • 35. Best No-Kill Shelter that I have ever seen!

    by: MelanieF

This is the best shelter I have ever been witness to. The on-site staff do everything possible to see to the cat's needs and provide the most loving temporary homes to these felines. FIV+ and Feline Leukemia are no deterrents to this shelter, and these cats are seen as just as adoptable as any other. \nThe staff and volunteers really care about the cats and will do their best to answer any visitor's questions; with associated feline behaviorists and on-site veterinary care, there aren't many questions that they can't answer.

    Pros

Every cat gets a chance at CAT

    Cons

They need the million dollar makeover for more space to help more cats

  • 36. CAT is awsome!

    by: rklsnk

At CAT every cat gets the chance to find a furr-ever home! Each cat gets the best care possible as well. The on site vet cares for the shelter cats, whether that entails treating for a kitty cold, a broken leg,or something serious! The people who work and volunteer for CAT are caring and dedicated people, who try hard to find the purrfect home for each cat. I would send anyone there to find thier next companion.

    Pros

No-kill, so everyone finds a home!

    Cons

    none

  • 37. A great Shelter

    by: nfdemtp74

The helpers here really know the cats. They genuinely care about each cat. And no-kill is a commitment to cats that has to be backed up with action. These people are great! The staff is also very patient with my boys when we come in to "cat cuddle" every week.

    Pros

Roam rooms, no kill, caring helpers

    Cons

    Needs more space.

  • 38. A Wonderful Mission

    by: knitnsew

It was a great experience visiting all the cats and meeting Jagger for the first time. We are blessed that he is ours--so smart and loving. We wouldn't have him if C.A.T. wasn't here. \nI still buy his food there as well as an occasional treat. The staff are always helpful and friendly.\nThis shelter takes in many cats that local societies and shelters would euthanize and finds them homes. Most people in the Portland, OR area know about C.A.T. and have good things to say about the mission they have to save the lives of cats.\n\n

    Pros

It's close and they have a great selection. I love being able to visit and interact.

    Cons

    I can't help more.

  • 39. Wonderful facility

The CAT center is wonderful. I have never heard anything negative regarding them. Keep up the good work!!

    Pros

    Great place

    Cons

None that I can think of

  • 40. I LOVE this place!

    by: Kyla

I adopted my wonderful boys from C.A.T. and I seriously don't know what I would do without them! After my wonderful adoption experience, I became a volunteer for C.A.T. and it's a wonderful feeling to do something so good and get so much love in return.\nAdopt! Volunteer! Donate!

    Pros

the best cat shelter in the world!

    Cons

    absolutely none!

  • 41. Wonderful shelter experience

    by: galaxy42

My last two cats were both former C.A.T. cats. C.A.T. has really developed a great shelter. They have the flexibility of cages or rooms to allow for the best care for every kind of cat. The room are perfect for socialization and really give you an idea of the cat's personality. It's also reassuring, when you are adopting into a multi-cat household, to know that the cats who are in the rooms have been socialized with other cats.\n\nOn the other hand, not all cats do well in that environment. Therefore, they have spacious cages with soft things to lay on for those cats who are more reserved or who may have specific medical needs. One of the best parts about adopting from C.A.T. is that you know your adoption dollars are being spent on providing care for the cats who are still waiting for their perfect home, many of which have special needs. \n\nC.A.T. also does a good job of posting information about each and every cat. There is medical history, when available, and notes about each cat's personality. The charts are available clipped to the cages or in racks next to the rooms, and they are very honest about the reasons each cat ended up at the shelter, including whether they have medical or behavioral issues. They have lists on the wall of long-term residents, declawed cats, and elderly cats so that people specifically seeking out a cat with a special circumstances can quickly determine which cats might be good ones to look at. \n\nThe adoption fees are very reasonable, and they frequently offer "specials," such as "Better with a buddy," to help more cats find homes. The on-site hospital allows all the cats in C.A.T.'s care to receive medical treatment for as long as they are at the shelter. It also works toward helping cats in the community by providing spay and neuter services. C.A.T. works with other shelters to help care for special needs cats, taking them in from county shelters where they have a smaller chance of being adopted. Once at C.A.T., these cats have a better chance of finding a forever home and are given as much time as they need to do so.\n\nI'm grateful to C.A.T. for both of my furry children--the older one was more than 10 years old when I adopted him, and the younger one is his perfect playmate. While I hope they will be with me for many years to come, I know that C.A.T. is the first place I'll look for future companions.

    Pros

Cats of all kinds, on-site hospital, great community partner

    Cons

It's hard to choose between the wonderful cats.

  • 42. Fulfulling all your cat's needs!

    by: jezzie

CAT is amazing at what they do!! I've been on both sides of the coin. They were able to help me when a stray showed up and take her in and adopt her back out. I was frustated at first that they couldn't take her right away, but now that I am a volunteer I appreciate them even more. The number of cats in their system from the shelter to outreach to foster is amazing. The cats are so well taken care of and given the best veternarian care. People adopting a cat from CAT Adoption should feel so proud and lucky to be supporting such a marvelous organization.

    Pros

always somebody to help; supplies are well stocked; animals care is #1 priority

    Cons

need more space so they can help more animals

  • 43. CAT NEEDS OUR HELP!

    by: jamisheehan

Please help CAT to win the makeover contest!\r\nKnowing one particular member of the CAT family (my sister works there!) I know there truly is no better place to go for kind, caring, compassionate care for your cat.

    Pros

    Great staff!

    Cons

    Needs more space

  • 44. Excellent

    by: Macks

My family has adopted 4 cats over the past several years from CAT and they are valued members of our family. I appreciate how CAT educates prospective owners on how to be a humane and responsible pet owner. It is sad to see so many cats without homes, but at least they have loving quality care at CAT until they find their forever home.

    Pros

No-kill shelter, promotes responsible pet ownership

    Cons

Too many unwanted cats, limited resources

  • 45. Great service

    by: JAMIE123

Well, saying thank you is not enough to CAT.\r\nMy kitty got really sick but they offered me free hospital visits. Furthermore, they put my kitty on medication just like their own kitties. Thank to their efforts, my kitty is in the pink of condition!!!!\r\n

    Pros

    Great service

    Cons

    Great service

  • 46. Saved my cat's life

    by: brittabava

Thank Goodness for the Cat Adoption Team who goes out of its way to treat cats and kittens that can be rehabilitated to an adoptable state. My cat Chance that I adopted from CAT would not be alive today if it weren't for the tremendous efforts by the vet staff and foster program. He makes me smile every day. \r\n\r\nI am so glad that there is an organization that is such a safety net to the cats in our community. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to saving their lives and placing them into an adoptable home. I hope that their knowldege and love for cats will be infectious to others and that cats will have as much value as dogs at some point.

    Pros

    Caring, compassionate, values ALL cats

    Cons

    None I can think of

  • 47. Cat Adoption Team Rules!!!

    by: animallover33

This is the most amazing, most deserving shelter I have ever adopted a cat from. They make sure the cat will have a nice, hopefully, forever home. All 6 of our cats stay indoors and are fixed. As long as you play with your cats, they are so much safer and happier inside.\n\nI became an adoption counselor to help out the Petsmart locations. It was an amazing experience just to help a few cats.

    Pros

friendly staff, wonderful cats, meaningful organization

    Cons

    they need more volunteers

  • 48. Great work for the community

    by: whtstg

I know that the Cat Adoption Team does wonderful work in the community and they are great about taking hard to adopt kitties from other shelters. I always see their kitties at PetSmart adoption centers and it's commendable what they do for the cats and their new owners.

    Pros

Able to put in pet stores, work to place adult cats

    Cons

    indoor/outdoor debate

  • 49. Catrageous!

CAT is an incredible place, with amazing staff and volunteers. Every time I visit, usually taking a new friend to encourage kitty adopting, I am duly impressed.

    Pros

    great people and place

    Cons

    kitties waiting and waiting

This facility is in a two story building. The cat living area's are divided into multiple rooms and many of the cats are out of cages and roaming within the rooms. There are plenty of toys for entertainment.\nThe entire staff was busy helping people, treating cats or cleaning. There were no odors evident and the place appeared to be very clean. \nI was able to take a peek behind the scenes and saw they had full hospital facilities.\nI give this shelter a big thumbs up.\n\n

    Pros

Good design of cat living space, hardworking staff.

    Cons

Not a comment on the facility, just sad they have so many feline clients.

    by: kimstar

We got our latest kitty Maxx from C.A.T. in Sherwood. He was one of 41 cats and kittens that were evacuated in Hurricane Katrina and flown in a small private plane to Sherwood. Just an example of the great people that run this shelter. Maxx is a Polydactel (multi-digit). He has 6 toes on each foot and is the cuddliest cat we've ever had. He is all purr-sonality and we love him so much.

  • 60. C.A.T. is outstanding!!

    by: whitehorse

What is outstanding about C.A.T. in Sherwood is their onsite vet service. Even tho' my last rescued stray was not from them, I could get affordable and quick shots & spaying for her. They are close to where I live, have easy access and good parking. (If I could stand to see all the great adult cats without crying I'd volunteer there!) They have a nice store too. The whole place is light and cheerful. Hooray.

    Pros

Clean, friendly, bright--cats look healthy and happy

    Cons

only con is that I wish I could adopt all the cats

  • 61. C.A.T is a great place to volunteer

    by: Kender

I've been a volunteer at many animal shelters but my experiences with Cat Adoption Team are by far the most memorable. The staff I worked with treated me with the utmost respect and honored my opinion and my experience coming in to the program. They are flexible when it comes to working out a volunteer schedule that meets your personal needs and if ever in doubt in the procedures or tasks you need to do, there was always a helpful and friendly person to ask for advice or assistance.\n\nThe cats and kittens are handled with outstanding care and their needs are well tended to. They are lovingly nurtured and played with by volunteers and staff on a regular basis which helps sooth their spirits and ease their temperaments in the otherwise stressful environment of the cattery as they await their forever homes.\n\nI recommend this place both as a volunteer as well as a place to adopt a future family pet. :)

    Pros

Oustanding staff, Exclt Animal Care, Unbeatable outreach

    Cons

Foster volunteers are often in short supply during cat season

    by: sunbrite45

We adopted one of our cats at a CAT outreach shelter two years ago. She is a great cat whose time had run out at 2 other shelters before she came to CAT. It breaks my heart to know she was in danger of being put down just because of time/space issues in other shelters. After 3 months at CAT she came to her forever home. \r\nWe were so pleased with our experience that we decided to volunteer at CAT. While going through volunteer training we toured the shelter and were so impressed with the people and philosophy behind this shelter. These people and cats are amazing!

  • 65. Cat Adoption Team of Sherwood Oregon

    by: jefairgrieve

When I adopted Celeste, I was carefully screened. In fact, a counselor came to my home to check that Celeste and my old kitty, Trudi, would be good roommates. I also had to promise to keep Celeste indoors, which I was happy to do. Indoor kitties are safer and healthier than outdoor kitties. After I adopted Celeste, a counselor contacted me to make sure everything was going well. C.A.T. is an exceptional no-kill cat shelter, and I intend to get my next kitty from that shelter. I would recommend this shelter to anyone wanting to adopt a kitty.

    by: Kittydreamer

From the moment I walked into CAT, I knew I was in for a treat. The friendly staff welcomed me with warm smiles and their beautiful store area made me feel like I was in a trendy boutique. \n\nTheir shopping area had everything from litter box solutions to kitty charm bracelets! Soft, warm hoodies and tee shirts waited for new owners in the back of the store while a ton a kitty toys were placed here and there.\n\nThe kitten room is bright, cheerful and roomy. The upstairs cattery was certainly clean and not smelly at all. However, the cages that held the kitties were way too small for some of the larger guests. This shelter is in need of a makeover for sure.\n\nIn closing, the CAT center was a warm and friendly place. I would certainly do business with them, either adopting or simply purchasing something from their store.

  • 69. The Best Little Cat House in the Northwest

    by: DougMSmith

Bet that title caught your eye. But a house is not a home. Finding homes is what Cat Adoption Team does best - over 3000 last year alone. I work there as a volunteer PetFinder photographer. I have worked at several other shelters and this one is the only one where I really feel they are making a difference not just holding the line. CAT has great volunteer and outreach programs. They are always looking for new ways to get their cats before the public in hopes of adoption. All cats get excellent care. Their hospital takes in many injured animals after they have been stablized by other public shelters.

    Pros

    Great shelter with caring staff

    Cons

Not enough room for more cats

  • 70. FANTASTIC Shelter

    by: rsperlin

I love CAT. When I moved to Portland, I got my cat from the Humane Society, because I didn't know about CAT. \n\nOne of the things I love best about CAT, is that from what I've seen at the Humane Society (both in Portland and in Salem), you have to ask a worker to let you get to know a cat. They have to find a room for you and bring the cat in. And they're not going to bring you every cat in the place. \n\nAt CAT, you can open any of the cages and get to know the cat a little BEFORE going into the "Get Acquainted" room. This is very helpful, because many cats don't necessarily come up to the bars of the cage, but will come right out as soon as you open the door. CAT's setup and policy allows you to meet many more cats before you decide on one (or two or three!!!!). You can also just go in when you've had a bad day and need a little fuzz therapy. \n\nI am very proud to volunteer for CAT and recommend the shelter to everyone I meet who has any interest in cats.

  • 80. cat adoption team - sherwood, or

    by: dPengue

Cat adoption team is the only "no kill shelter" in the Portland area that I know of. The staff and volunteers work hard to pair the right cat with the right potential owner. They provide information on caring for a new cat, what to expect when bringing home a new cat, health issues, behavioral problems and the importance of spaying and nutering, as well as answering any other questions you might have concerning your new cat. Because they have a veternarian clinic on site they are able to provide medical attention to all cats immediately upon arrival to the shelter. \n\nThere are not many animal shelters in the Portland metro area and the ones that accept cats (Clackamas County has no cat shelter) are usually always full, the cat adoption team is sometimes the only place you can take a sick stray and/or ferral cat. \n\nThe Cat Adoption Team would be greatly enhanced with a brighter and more modern face lift. It could use more comfortable and cheerful "get acquainted rooms" .

    Pros

    no kill shelter, cats only

    Cons

    by: H2Obearer71

I highly recommend C.A.T. to anyone looking for a new feline friend. \r\n\r\nWhen my family and I decided to add another feline to our happy home we knew just where to go. C.A.T. has a great facility, caring and knowledgeable staff, and of course lots of great cats looking for fur-ever homes. In fact we ended up taking two new friends home (and if it were up to me we would have taken even more.) :) Our adoption counselor was terrific. She was very knowledgeable and patiently answered every question my very precocious 6 year old son asked her. There was great follow-up to make sure that our new family members were adjusting to their new home. \r\n\r\nC.A.T. is an amazing operation! They've been tirelessly helping cats for almost 10 years and I hope that they will be around for many, many more. Thanks C.A.T., our family wouldn't be complete without you!\r\n

I had a wonderful expirence taking my grandmother to adopt her cat here on new years eve 2007 the people there were verry friendly, knowlegeble, and willing to help us make our disicion. We ended up being the last adoption of 2007. I was verry pleased to see how careful they were in the adoption process to make sure we were a good family. The adoption counselor also gave us a home # to contact her if we had any trouble with our new cat. The only con I had with the shelter was that the adult cats were upstairs and my grandmother is not as agile as she used to be and it would have been nice if they were downstairs.

    by: mguerin

I had been fostering for another shelter for almost 10 years, but had a horrible experience with a last foster so I decided to check out CAT. I joined as a foster parent in October 2007. I took home my first foster for them that same month - a mom and 2 week old babies. When you work with them - they send you home with a well stocked emergency bag - which has URI meds, bottle feeding supplies, rags, syringes, cloths, little bags, etc. they also set you up with a Mentor, someone you can go to day or night for anything. My mentor has been a godsend to me - she's always responsive, and willing to do or help with anything I need at any time. The response I"ve had from them for any of my foster questions or situations has been immediate and helpful. \r\n\r\nAlso the cats in the shelter environment have very nice large cages, not cramped like some shelters. Any time I"ve been there, there's always someone there cleaning cages, feeding cats, talking to them or playing with them. Its a very open environment for the people and the cats.\r\n\r\n The cats lucky enough to wind up at CAT are truly blessed because they will receive the best possible care.

    by: camooreor

Have visited alot of shelters in my many years, but this is one of the best. They continually stive to improve and their outreach program for the cats is amazing!! I have adopted seven cats from them and my son two, and without question, they have the process down to a fine art. Not that there isn't any room for improvement, or glitches don't occur, but there is always someone there to advocate or rectify the problem. They could use a little more friendliness at the front desk, but overall, the personnel work hard for the cats and the customers. Good job, keep it up!!

  • 90. Support this WONDERFUL shelter!

    by: tinjuchic

C.A.T. is a truly amazing shelter. It is supported by tons of loving, caring and driven volunteers that give their time to visit with the cats, clean cages, administer meds, foster kitties (like me!), donate time, money, energy to raising funds and keeping the needy CATS of sherwood, portland metro, and beyond in a safe and loving environment where they can await their forever home. This shelter is NO KILL, which means they will not ever euthanize due to lack of space. Their knowledgable staff offers volunteers and interested parties classes on various cat-centric subjects, sharing their valuable information and moving their love for cats into a wider arena. I invite anyone to learn more about cat at www.catadoptionteam.org, or come down to the Sherwood shelter, visit the Kitten Headquarters always bursting with sweet, healthy little babies, head upstairs to the many rooms filled with adult cats looking for a great companion, and find out how you can enrich your life as a volunteer or a new adoptive family for one of their truly awesome kitties. Thanks for reading!

    Pros

Great Staff, Nice Facility (but who wouldn't want to million dollar makeover!), wonderful resource for needy kitties in Oregon.

    Cons

The only con I can see is that this awesome shelter can't always accomodate all the kitties they want to...help us win the million dollar makeover so we can help even more needy kitties!

  • 91. Want to Volunteer and Feel Good About Your Work?

    by: mariposa

As with other shelters, C.A.T.'s staff and volunteers, supporters and greater community are devoted to a logical, sustainable and yet loving approach to dealing with feline overpopulation. \n\nVolunteering with this organization is a dream. They know how to help you help them. C.A.T. does an excellent job soliciting and keeping volunteers. They're organized, communicate what needs to be known, delegates, trusts their volunteers and lets them do their job.\n\nThe feel of working with the staff is just right. Someone there long ago has created a work culture there that is "no attitude", loving, and focused on getting done what needs to be done.\n\nC.A.T. does not lose sight of its purpose and has an unexhaustable staff. Even in the heaviest of kitten seasons, they are chipper, on top of things and smiling.\n

    by: jashu51

Took the 20-minute drive from Portland to C.A.T. to look at some kittens after our 16- and 17-year-old cats had passed. Just went down for a look. The place was so warm and inviting with friendly staff. I think it's wonderful that it is a no-kill shelter and that they care for cats that other places would euthanize because of age or health concerns. The young woman (#1 C.A.T.-listed danielai) we spoke to, was really making sure we were a good fit. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention, a little one-year-old cat named Rhetta (renamed Rita) decided she was going home with us. She did, and she was latter joined by another foster kitten from C.A.T. named Duncan. These people do great work and I try to donate to them when I can. Check them out!

  • 97. Hooray for CAT in Sherwood, Oregon

    by: anniecat

Hi. I'm Anniecat. The person in my fur-ever home found me at CAT, where I had to wait for six months for her to come get me. The good people at CAT helped me with my depression and sniffles when I first got to the shelter. I was nursed back to health and then had a nice time hanging out with the other cats while I waited for my person. When she came for me the folks at CAT were real careful to make sure her home was a suitable fur-ever one and that she knew all she needed to know about caring for me. (Of course I knew all this, but those dear people at CAT wanted to make sure!) My person was so happy with them that for the first year I lived with her she would go once a week to clean cages for the cats who were still at CAT. We love CAT and hope it's around to find fur-ever homes for thousands of more cats in the coming years!!!

    Pros

Best place for a cat to be while waiting for a fur-ever home.

    Cons

    Isn't quite as good as a fur-ever HOME. . .

CAT is blessed to be no-kill, and has a lot of cats that are brought in from other local shelters and the community. Go take a look!

    Pros

Lots of cats, great staff, no-kill, open every day.

    Cons

A little far away from Portland
