This park is on the state line between North Carolina and Tennessee, above Roan Mountain. It's right on the Appalachian Trail. You can hike over balds, and once you get past the first bald you've got the mountain more or less to yourself. Most places you can see far enough that you can let your dog off the leash and still get him back on it when people are coming. On weekends it's crowded. You can camp on the balds, but if you park in the parking lot don't leave any valuables because punks come up there at night to rob cars.
