  • 1. Un-professional!!!

    by: LukeWilson

I recently sent my dog in for a booster shot and a month supply of heartworm. The first thing they asked when she got there was what my dog was in for!!! Duh. Aren't you supposed to record that when you make an appointment! Then they made my fiance give the ok to have another heartworm test, which was just done last month with her other shot and heartguard medicine, because they did not record that on their charts again!!!... Well you can tell I wasn't too pleased. My fiance called me and told me how rude the staff was with her questioning some prices, and then their unwillingness to part with the fee of the 2nd heartworm test after I pulled out the last receipt and read it to them. So I called them and "very" politely told them they were unprofessional, that I was not going to be a customer anymore and that I was sure any other vet would be happy to take my money and most likely keep their records up-to date and complete. All in all I would like to let anyone know, if you are looking for a vet, cheap is not the way to go!!!

    Pros

    cheap

    Cons

unorganized, rude, and overall not helpful

  • 2. Thoughtful Care

    by: deenytheoddest

I always take my pets here and every member of their staff is so friendly and helpful, I can't help but come back. I took my dog in recently for an exam and when I mentioned she seemed to dislike men, they were kind enough to bring in a female vet. They are always knowledgeable and have answered every question I've asked whether in person or on the phone.

    Pros

    Friendly, accommodating, helpful

    Cons

    None

  • 3. Very disappointed with this clinic

    by: huntershorsehaven

I almost lost my dog with them, had to take her to another vet to save her. Then, our rabbit became paralyzed after surgery and had to be put down. I wrote a letter to the owner regarding my experiences with them. After a return call which took weeks, I can honestly say I was willing to give them another chance. It seems that most of the issues were lack of communication. Appearently with my dog...the vet relayed a message to have me come back in, which I never received and the dog almost died. They assumed she was depressed from being in a clinic and never asked me her personality and I could have told them she was NOT a depressed dog, but rather a hyper, thinks everyone loved her type dog. With the Rabbit, we just didn't know. She said that the rabbit was fine. somehow in the recovery process something went wrong. Information we got from vets there were conflicting, so It was easy to be mad regarding care. My new rabbit is ready to have surgery to be neutered. I called them back as they had told me they would be making changes and at least I felt that they were willing to help "Nardo's" death not be in vain, but learn and that is all we can ask right!? I received a call back yesterday basically telling me to go see this doctor in Watertown which is 2 hour drive from my house. Not to mention my origial surgery amount of $70.00 at the clinic is now a substantial increase to $312.00 not including the office visit appt. It really felt like they just brushed me out the door. And they wouldn't even recommend a local vet!??? I am not impressed with this clinic at all. I feel that I have given them ample opportunities. I feel it is a shame since it really is a beautiful clinic! I called just out of curiosity today to ask if they neutered rabbits and the desk help told me no and referred me to Watertown. Now, I felt better knowing that it wasn't just me they were shooing off, however, wouldn't that have been more professional to say? Something like, because of our past experience, we decided to not care for rabbits and we prefer a specialist takes on their care? I feel that they didn't want to admit they didn't know how to care for them maybe, so now they are quietly exiting?? Some of the vets in there I liked. Others I feel are just not people orientated. Your choice, but I feel you would be better off establishing somewhere else.

    Pros

    Very clean, beautiful new facility

    Cons

    Just not people orientated

  • 4. Induced anaphylactic reaction

    by: DanMoYo

I took our 12 week old miniature pup in for his shots. He barely weighed 5 lbs. The vet gave him a full dose (as required by law) of rabies vaccine, as well as a 7-way live distemper shot: he received all together 8 vaccines in two shot! He went into anaphylaxis, to the doctors surprise. Several injections and much anguish later, the doctor was able to stabilize the puppy. This could have been avoided: give the powerful rabies vaccine in isolation, especially to a tiny pup. This clinic cared not at all about Ringo's earlier treatments, and would not even look at his record. They prescribed everything under the sun (pills for this, creams for that) in case of illnesses that have almost no chance of occurring in a small, indoor dog. I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone.

    Pros

    Clean and pleasant

    Cons

    young, inexperienced staff

  • 5. Nice vet clinic

    by: ilovenova

very very clean!!! when we took our cats to the vets for a routine check-up, the vet tech that check them weighed them and palpated their stomach, and listened to their pulse, but didn't do temperature, and didn't look in eyes/ears.

    Pros

very clean!, nicely designed, down-to-business staff

    Cons

a bit brusque, exam could be better

  • 6. Canton Animal Clinic - Best in Area!

    Pros

Very patient with pets / take time to explain things

    Cons

  • 7. Very Pleased

    by: dwill

(written by Rich's wife)We really love this place. After moving to the area we tried another vet and were not so happy. The Canton clinic has a number of veterinarians as well as vet techs. We have been going there for almost 4 years. Each person has their own personality and we enjoy them all - Our pets are certainly like family in some ways. We have dogs, cats, a bunny and sheep. We have had "farm" visits - even had to had to have our very old sheep put down and the compassion we were shown was amazing. We also have a very old cat (19) with an infection, we call her our hospice patient and we have gotten excelent help and advice as we keep her comfortable at this late stage in her life. From young to old, our pets get good care here - I can even stop in and weigh my Neuf as she grows to see if I am still giving her the correct dose of heartworm med. as far as cost goes - our Siberian Husky needed to have knee surgery (like acl repair) and it was not cheep but they let us pay over time and when I spoke to my brother in Albany his husky had the same thing happen and the cost was liturally exactly double! We are happy they are here - We are open - direct and honest with them - we discuss the issues and they treat us with the same honest respect.

    Pros

excellent veterinarians - I can always get in in an emergency

    Cons

sometimes for wellness visits the wait is long (I don't sit still well)

  • 8. Was never impressed

    by: scheney

I hate Dr. Spears and if he's still working at this facility, I would never take an animal there! He's mean, cantankerous, and treats the owners of their pets horendously! Not sure about the new facility - I've heard there are two women vets there now - thank goodness - maybe this will allow the pets to be treated well and the owners too!

    Pros

    The new building

    Cons

    They were rude to me

  • 9. My pets love this place and so do i!

    by: marymoo

A very nice place. Dr. Speer is one of the vets there and my husband has been dealing with him since he got his license and before him, with his father. They do a good job over there.

    Pros

    nice new place

    Cons

you don't always see the same vet

  • 11. Updated Clinic

    by: ktldun

This is a newly built clinic with oddles of updated equipment at the ready for testing. The staff has increased as well. The waiting area is huge with areas to keep nervous animals in quiter corners. It's very clean and well lit, with better parking now. My girls don't mind going.

    Pros

    Close By and Newly Updated

    Cons

    Appointments needed

  • 12. great care

    by: mulegirl

We have a dairy farm and they are always there for us. They take the time to explain all our needs. My daughter and I have pet rats. We kill rats on the farm and I personally felt stupid bringing the rats in to the office. Everyone was very nice and didn't say anything about icky rats. Very nice. I was freaking out over Riley's tumor being taken off because of his heart history. They spent a lot of time with me going over anesthesia and what was best for Riley. Love them.

    Pros

    always there to help

    Cons

    everythings in this world costs

  • 13. beautiful new facility and great care

    by: vcaamano

This vet office used to be housed in a tiny, run down house. Since building their new facility, they have become very busy, and added several additional vets to their staff. I find them very competent and have always received good care for my animals.

    Pros

new spacious building, competent vets, good staff

    Cons

can be a long wait for a routine appt.

  • 14. Kind and Caring

    by: fishbera

I have always been pleased with the care my pets have received at the Canton Animal Clinic. The entire staff is knowledgeable and caring and go out of their way to answer any questions I have no matter how stupid. Everyone there was also very kind and supportive during the loss of two of our pets last year. My family and I really appreciated the sympathy cards they sent, it showed they really care about the animals and know what a loss they are.

I have been taking my cat there for a few years and also at the Riveside Drive facility. The new appointment system is better than the old way of sitting and waiting. There is much more room for the animals. I think the staff and vets have been great.

  • 18. Not Impressed

    by: margo052002

I took my dog there on an emergency vet visit at 5:30 at night (they declared it an emergency visit since the doctor had been done for two minutes). I usually go to Trout Brook but I was with my mom, and this is her vet and I was hoping to save a little money. The vet tech was polite, but the vet was very rude. They seemed aggravated that we took the dog there after hours. After putting her under and putting 7 staples in her chin, we got to take my dog home. They charged us $250. Three days later, my dog yawned and we spotted 3 quills sticking out about an inch in the inside of her mouth. We called the vet and told them that they missed some quills, and that we did not want to pay another $250 for their mistake. Their response was that the quills would migrate, and that is why they were sticking out. We were very angry because it is obvious these quills were already there when we took the dog in the first place. We took her to Trout Brook, and they took care of the rest of the TEN quills in my dog's mouth that Canton Animal Clinic missed. They warned us that quills do migrate, and we might see a few over the next couple weeks. Of course, we did see some. They stick out like a little sliver. It is so obvious that the quills that were in her mouth 3 days after were NOT from migration, it was simply sloppy, rushed work. I am SO unhappy with the service we received. I will NEVER go there again, and I would not recommend an emergency vet visit to the place to ANYONE!!!!

    Pros

    Nice facility

    Cons

    Rude, sloppy work

  • 19. Poor attitudes

    by: budderfly84

My personel feeling is that this clinic overcharges their customers to afford the new building that they have. Vets are rude and rough with animals. Wouldn't go there unless I had to.

    Pros

    Cons

  • 20. Not My First Choice

    by: ZingyZoid

When gas prices skyrocketed I decided to try out this clinic as it's much closer than our regular vet's office. I had each of my pets seen over a period of three visits and while I found the staff to be efficient and they got the job(s) done I felt like we were just another client on a long day. Little more than a nuisance to one vet. This particular vet didn't seem to want to spend time in discussion, showed no signs of gentleness or compassion and really just left me with a bad impression. Another vet was much nicer, went out of her way to make the pups at ease with her and was open and seemed willing to spend time with us while discussing our issues. In the end I decided I'd much rather go out of my way and incur the extra expense just to see our caring, friendly, reliable vet.

    Pros

Location, Friendly Office Staff, Great Facility

    Cons

    Just not feeling the love

  • 21. Great Service

    by: mrskelsey24

The staff was great with my dog, they were gently and friendly with him. You can tell they really love animals and what they do. They answered all of our questions and were friendly to us. I'm so thankful for a vet office near us that is so great!!!

    Pros

The staff was super friendly, they treated my dog with great care

    Cons

half our away from where I live but worth the drive

  • 22. These folks don't overdo it

    by: Barthelmess

We've been taking our cats and dogs to the Canton Animal Clinic for several years now and have been very happy with the service we receive. They have a vet on call 24 hours a day, which is reassuring (and is a service I needed). Their clean and bright new facility did NOT come with a huge increase in the cost of services. Also, I appreciate that they advise us on what our pets actually need and do not try to overprescribe meds, services, etc. They also have a great demeanor with the animals, which counts in my book for a LOT.

    Pros

    cost, knowledge, level of service

    Cons

    wait time

  • 23. Compassionate Caregivers

    by: lmacqueen

While taking care of my son's dog , she had difficulties breathing and my regular vet was unavailable. I called Canton Animal Clinic (it was at the end of the day) and they said to bring her right over. With my own dogs we had 2 emergency situations and the same thing happened. At that point we switched vets. They have always been there even for somebody who was not a "regular patient". Recently I had to have an 18 year old cat put to sleep and they could not have been more sympathic. Care has been excellent and I highly recommend this clinic!

    Pros

Several vets in one clinic is a definite plus!

    Cons

I have to drive farther to see them but it is worth it!

  • 24. usually go there

    by: stevietoo

I really havent been to the new building yet. (stevie is old and hates vet trips) But my pets went to the facility when it was on riverside drive and the service and care was always great. So in the future that is wher I will take any pets I have.

    Pros

    close by

    Cons

    none

  • 25. Big help in an emergency

    by: katym77

About six months ago this clinic was a super big help to me in an emergency. I had taken in a kitty who had belonged to a late family member. I took the kitty in for her vaccinations - to my regular vet - and she had a severe allergic reaction to the vaccs. My regular vet had already closed so I called the Canton Animal hospital. They were able to work her into their schedule and treat her. They were very caring and reassuring. I had to leave my kitty overnight just to make sure she was going to be okay, and I though the charge for the overnight stay was quite reasonable. I would go to this clinic regularly if I didn't already have a vet I like whose office is closer to where I live.

    Pros

    knowledgeable

    Cons

    none

  • 26. Great place for pets

    by: bohlcore

I first went this vet when I moved to the area and my dog had an emergency. They were the only vet who would fit him in for an appointment on short notice. They have provided wonderful care to our pets. When a treatment decision needs to be made they offer us the information we need to make a decision and support our choice. They were incredibly supportive when we had to put our dog, and later, a cat to sleep. They've also been great with our new puppy and a handful of after hours scrapes he's been into. I hightly reccomend the Canton Animal Hospital!

    Pros

    friendly, compasionate staff

    Cons

    can't think of any

  • 27. Great Vet

    by: helenbrk

Canton Animal Clinic has a beautiful new facility. The doctors are very knowledgeable and take time with each animal at each visit. I have been to vets that order to many tests and ones that don't seem to want to do anything extra. I have found Canton to be a right mix of the both. We are very happy taking our pet here.

    Pros

New Facility, Knowledgeable Drs and great Service

    Cons

    Long Wait sometimes

  • 28. the decision we never want to have to make

    by: Cathylyn

You let the receptionist know exactly what your wishes are. You are able to pay first if you wish so you don't have to return to the waiting area. The room is quiet and calming. A time to reflect the memories that you and your beloved pet had together.

    Pros

A room just for your family and your pet

    Cons

    none

  • 29. close to home

    by: sarahsweetheart

the new facility is beautiful. I would almost want to just hang out there. the vet seemed knowledgeable but he was mean to his vet techs. the vet techs were very nice.

  • 30. would go back. i think.

    by: lucasmanning16

  • 31. Beautiful facility

    by: DrRSP

Good service, knowledgeable staff and a gorgeous facility!

    Pros

    Building is great

    Cons

    A little pricey

  • 32. Cost of care at the new facility

    by: MissVi41

We have been clients of the clinic since the 70's having taken many pets there always receiving the best of care. The new updated building is very nice, but cost is now an issue. Are customers sharing the burden of the expense? I don't think the animals are interested in the cable TV, fireplace and elaborate decor. Being seen promptly is the main issue of importance and the new office is a little improvement over the first-come, first-served method of the old place on Riverside Drive. I will need to shop around for flea meds to get the best deal being on a fixed income, and pray my pet remains healthy so I won't need the expensive services now offered at the new facilitiy.

    Pros

Beautiful new building and extremely caring staff

    Cons

    Prices have skyrocketed!

  • 33. Good Place!

    by: thorntsm

I began going to the Canton Animal Clinic when I got my cat. As a first time pet owner, I was kind of apprehensive as the kitten had quite a few issues that were relatively minor but I thought they were major at the time. Most of the staff was great and helpful. Sometimes the one vet was a bit dismissive but otherwise informative. The client waiting area could have been a bit more friendly also.

    Pros

easy to get an appointment, cost effective

    Cons

    some vets were slightly dismissive

  • 34. Great

  • 35. Good choice for the North Countrt

    by: lacaamano

I've been going to Canton Animal Clinic for the past several years and have been very happy with them. I have had numerous dogs treated there, including two guide dog puppies that they donated all services for. The vets are knowledgeable and kind, and treat the animals with respect and gentleness. I like the openness to holistic approaches to pet care, and their willingness to refer to another clinic, when they feel it is prudent.

    Pros

    beautiful, new clinic

    Cons

need to make routine appts. well in advance

  • 36. Wonderful Place

    by: Daveradioman

We took our cat there to get all his shots, nuetered and declawed. They took excellent care of him and called us to update us on how he was doing. And when there were probles with his paws as the glue came undine they haad us come right back in and took care of him. The building is very nice inside and out and the staff is friendly and ready to do all they can for you and your pet. I definatley recommend them as they really care about the animals and thier families.

    Pros

    Friendly, prompt, care about animals

    Cons

    not really that I've found

  • 37. Great Atmosphere

    by: mikedeb2002

The interior of the clinic looks like an Adirondack lodge. Lots of room for the animals waiting to be seen. They are very prompt, you actually get in at the time of your appointment.

    Pros

Very Clean, Large, Easy Access, New Building

    Cons

    Location

  • 38. Wonderful care

    by: kimwilky

As an animal control officer I get calls at any hour in the night and one night when I had a hurt dog that was possibly hit by a car they were quick to get the dog in without hesitation and under an hour. I couldn't have been more pleased with how I was treated and how much they cared for the dog. This is a place where I also bring my own dog and I wouldn't go anywhere else!

    Pros

    Great after hour care

    Cons

    None
