  • 1. Great place to take the pups!

    by: girldog65

This is a great place to have fun with the dogs. It's great in the spring when the grass is green and the air is crisp. The view from monkey face is wonderful. I would recommend this park to anyone who loves to enjoy the great outdoors with their dogs!

    Pros

wide open space for pets to run free

    Cons

in mid summer, you've got to watch out for foxtails

  • 2. Chico is the Best

    by: HiDebb

Upper Bidwell Park in Chico is one of our best kept secrets. There are acres and acres of land where it is legal to have your dog off leash! Plus a lake for swimming and chasing ducks...

    Pros

    Lots of off leash acres

    Cons

    Some climbing may be required

  • 3. ahhhh the sights and smells here are great

    by: tinalouise73

Upper Park is the place to go to if your dog loves being off lease and of course has manners. My two dogs love being able to be free and mingle (as long as they behave). This is a wonderful place to let the pets run and play. One of the best places in city limits and it is easy to access the various parts of the park. It is also so large that if you want to avoid other dogs, there is plenty of open space and a variety of trails to do so without having to put them on a leash. Great place to spend quality time with your pet at anytime of the day!

    Pros

Wide open spaces, many trails to enjoy

    Cons

some older trails are no blocked off to hiker access

  • 5. Upper Bidwell

    by: devonquok

We love upper Bidwell!!! It is the perfect place to let our dogs loose and get in some exercising for ourselves climbing "Monkey Face". All of the dog owners that go there clean up after their dogs and are very friendly. Kala, my dog, and Cooper, my friend's dog, love going for a long walk then cooling off in the little lake and playing some fetch too in the lake. It is by far the most perfect place:)

    Pros

    Huge area, swimming area, clean

    Cons

    none

  • 6. COOL CREEK

    by: GRIFFBELGIANS

LOVE THE PARK YEAR ROUND BUT ESPECIALLY ON A HOT SUMMER DAY. IT'S GREAT TAKING THE DOGS UP ALONG THE CREEK , FIND A QUIET PLACE AND WE ALL COOL OFF IN THE CREEK. YEAR ROUND THE AREA NEAR THE CROSS, AT THE START OF THE RIM TRAIL IS A GOOD PLACE TO RUN THE DOGS, WITH LOTS OF PLACES FOR THEM TO PLAY AND SNIFF.

    Pros

    NEARBY, CREEK. TREES

    Cons

    NONE

  • 7. Walking in Bidwell Park

    Pros

my dogs love the creek and the trials

    Cons

sometimes it's crowded, but we love it anyway

  • 9. Great Park

    by: Tbopsut

This is a great park to take your dogs, but please be aware of the other dogs that are in the park as well. A friend's dog was attacked by another dog that was off leash and had to get stitches. As long as your aware of your surroundings this can be a great place to have fun and get exercise with your pets.

    Pros

    Lots of space

    Cons

Dogs off leash can be dangerous

  • 10. Cuervo LOVES this!

    by: Paradisedog

Such a beautiful place! The great outdoors, so much to see (and sniff). Trails abound! Follow the rules for leash useage, there are off-leash areas (in Upper Park), but don't abuse the priviledge. It appears that MOST people pick-up after their pets, but watch for the slobs who don't! That gives us all a bad name. If you are in Upper Park, keep an eye out for the bicyclists. Most are friendly, but some seem to think the park is just for them.

    Pros

    Great outdoor space

    Cons

Sometimes main trail areas are crowded

  • 11. I love Bidwell

When in college, I always went here but at the same time I have never had a dog then. So my dog has never been here but I love this park and I think our dog would love it here as well! We were thinking about going here in the near future with her.

    Nice park

  • 16. A Must!

    by: Danaburger

As a Chico native, I am quite fond of Bidwell Park. For dog owners, this is a must! There are several places that dogs can go off leash, and most dog owners are conscientious of others around them and will control their dogs when necessary. Bidwell Park is a great place with something for everyone!

    Pros

    Beautiful!

    Cons

    Sometimes can be crowded

  • 17. Everything the outdoors dog would want.

    by: GoAnimals

The upper bidwell park has lots of open free roaming area for your dogs. You can throw the ball in a huge field as your walking, theres several trails to try and also a creek running along some of the trails to take your dog swimming in. My dogs can't wait to get out there, if they could have it their way I don't think I would be able to type anything about the park do to being so busy running around with them.

    Pros

    Hiking, walking, swimming, other dogs.

    Cons

Rattle Snakes, water is too fast in some areas.

  • 21. Bidwell is GREAT!

    by: Marleydog

Bidwell Park is incredible! Upper Park offers so much for human and canine alike. There are off-leash and on-leash areas; plenty of hiking trails; water; shade; and pure enjoyment. The cooler weather is awesome for out-of-doors exploration.\r\n\r\nThere is plenty of parking (free!). There are plenty of trails (well-marked). There is plenty to do!\r\n\r\nIf you've never been to Upper Park, go now! If you haven't been in quite some time, treat your canine (& yourself!) to some quality time outside, in nature.

    Pros

    Open environment

    Cons

    None

  • 23. A great place to have fun

    by: chicinmudd

This is the place to go and let your dog run loose. It's not a traditional dog park with fences and such. It's a big open area for dogs to run around. The north (left) side of the park is open to off leash anytime. This is a great spot because there are a bunch of different trails (and difficulty levels) to trek off on. You can loop around the lake and let your dog play in the water and you meet tons of other dogs. I have never met a mean dog on this side of the park.\n\nThe other side of the park is a more secluded area with lots of trees and the trails butt up against the river. This side dogs can only be off leash from 5:30-830 in the morning. This is a bummer because my dog loves the river.\n\nThis is a great place to meet people and other dogs. It's a great place to socialize and the people and the dogs love it.\n\n

    Pros

awesome trails, lake, friendly dogs, two side of park

    Cons

leash law on the river side of the park
