We had a very sad incident - our akita bloated during the night. We took her to the Vet hospital because no other offices were open. They were kind, gentle and very supportive.

    Pros

    Open 24 hours a day

    Cons

    None

  • 2. Great vets and caring staff.

I use the new Austin Vet Care location that is where Animal Medical Center North was located. There were a few bumps during the transition, but the staff and vets genuinely care about animals and work to build a relationship with their clients. Because I have so many pets, the front desk can recognize my voice on the phone, but I've seen that even more normal pet owners receive the high level of service when they come in for exams or to pick up prescription foods or meds. The new vet on staff since the transition, Dr. Tracy, has several clients who followed her from her previous practice even though the new location isn't convenient for them, and Dr. Brandes has a strong client base and volunteers his time and skills during disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They also have a surgery and rehab center on site now, and they are always willing to provide referrals to specialists if necessary. I highly recommend this vet clinic to anyone looking for a vet in the North Austin area.

    Pros

Affiliated emergency care center, wonderful caring vets and staff

    Cons

More expensive than some Austin vets

  • 3. Friendly Staff/Clean Offices

I came across Austin Vet Care after adopting my cat from Town Lake Animal Shelter. The initial health exam was free and they didn't charge me for removing her spay stitches. I have been back several times for minor illnesses and I have been continually impressed with the friendliness of the vets and staff. Although I have not used the emergency services, it is really nice to know that they are offered.

    Pros

    Friendly staff

    Cons

I haven't really come across any...

  • 4. Awesome care!

I have used Austin Vet Care for emergency service and as a vet clinic, and can't praise the vets and staff highly enough -- especially Dr. Nancy Calloway. She comes to the houses of my friends who have had pet emergencies, just to check up on their pets! She also came to a friend's house when his cat was so sick he was afraid to move her. Dr. Nancy is the epitome of a loving, caring pet physician.

    Pros

Caring, loving vet care PLUS 24-hr emergency clinic

    Cons

    none
