  • 1. My Perfect Dog

    by: pointerlova

I got my dog, Lilly, from Animal House. It was close to the opening and I heard about it from some of my freinds. I went there and saw all these dogs in need. I kept telling myself, "I'm not going to adopt. Just looking." but that didn' t turn out well. All the staff were amazingly nice and helped me choose a perfect dog for me. I would definetly recomend Animal House to any of my freinds.

    Pros

Nice Service, wonderful atmosphere, and very caring to their dogs!

    Cons

    A little small...

  • 2. good shelter

this shelter is fantastic. It helps so many dogs, and the people at it work very hard to keep the shelter running and the dogs healthy and happy. They are the best place in Fort Collins to get a dog.

    by: SuzanneR

Animal House is the best no-kill dog shelter for all breeds around this area. Their staff is caring and knowledgeable, and they make sure that the dogs get all the veterinary care they need. They are also great partners and supporters of Fort Collins Cat Rescue.

    Pros

    excellent no-kill shelter for dogs

    Cons

  • 4. Wonderful Dogs

    by: arrenken

We adopted an eight week old puppy from Animal House and could not be happier with out pooch! Our dog would not have had the chance at life if it weren't for this organization. They took in a liter of puppies, provided them with the necessary puppy shots and helped the entire litter to find loving homes. What a fantastic organization this is! They have helped over 800 dogs who were slated for euthanasia or who were strays to find loving families. They take the time and ask the right questions to make sure that the perfect match is made between new owner and dog. Animal House - you are a wonderful addition to the Fort Collins community.

    Pros

Knowleable staff, caring volunteers, community support, dedication to every dog that comes to the rescue

    Cons

  • 5. Excellent shelter

    by: Heelerz

Their grooming services are excellent and I love that the money goes back to the shelter. \r\n\r\nThe shelter itself is always clean and they've really fixed it up for what they have to work with. I love that they allow the dogs to be in the runs together instead of the other local shelter that makes them stay in separate, dark, confined runs.

    Pros

    Excellent staff

    Cons

    Not many know about them

  • 6. Honest, Caring Shelter & Staff

    by: KelKirsch

Animal House is amazing with what they have done for dogs and the community. In order to do more good they need an updated shelter so they can cater to all the dogs they have coming in. They rely heavily on foster homes because the shelter just isn't big enough to accommodate all the animals they are helping out. You can tell these people care and it shows even through the volunteers coming in and out. I say job well done and hope that they get the much needed attention they deserve!

    Pros

They TRUELY care about the dogs

    Cons

Shelter needs updating and to be bigger

    Cons

Could use a larger facility and more publicity

    by: MrEric

A friend of mine has volunteered for this shelter, and I have seen it. The shelter is kept clean, and the dogs are in good living conditions. They are exercised regularly, and the shelter is located in a good place near a large field so they can have a bit of outdoor activity. All in all it is a fine shelter.

    Pros

good no kill shelter - cares about the dogs

    Cons

  • 15. Grooming helps shelter

    by: kbigs

I haven't adopted from Animal House, but we do take our pound puppy to Animal House for grooming. They have been so patient with our pooch. He really didn't like having his nails trimmed, but over time he has gotten so much better and he now lets them trim his nails...most of the time. They have also been very accomodating with our dog's arthritis and don't make him stand when not necessary. And when you pay to have your pet groomed there part of your grooming fees go to supporting the shelter. I recommend them to everyone I know.

    Pros

Wonderful staff that just loves animals

    Cons

    NONE

  • 16. This place is special!

    by: dclark

We just adopted Tommy from the Animal House and had a great experience. My daughter has volunteered there and had a great experience, but also got to know Tommy so that we knew what he was like to begin with. They were very accomodating in letting us walk and visit other dogs, they were very honest about what Tommy's history was, and their purpose in giving dogs a second chance is awesome. I know that I will adopt a dog from there again someday even though I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get there! \r\n\r\nThey honestly love these dogs!\r\n

    Pros

    caring staff, honest people

    Cons

    none

  • 17. Animal House Rocks!

    by: darmstrong81

I love this place. When I was looking for a new member of my family after college Animal House was the first place I went to. I heard about them from their various events in town. At the time they did not have the right dog for me and I found Rowan else where. However, I often go by just to see if there are any dogs that i just can't live without and the staff is great, the animals are happy, and the placed is kept very clean. Rowan and I will be going there soon to get a microchip put in as all of the proceeds from the procedure go to help the shelter.

    Pros

    Too many to mention!

    Cons

They don't have the ability to take more dogs in need

  • 19. Our favorite place!

    by: LeeG

We love this place! I am so thrilled to have Animal House in my community - it's a great opportunity to make a contribution to animal rescue. I volunteer there every week, and it always makes my day to see all the animals, not to mention dear friends Ali and Sandra and all the other volunteers. My little neice said the best thing I could give her for her birthday would be a trip to Animal House. We are celebrating our first anniversary this year, and have adopted out hundreds of dogs and puppies to happy homes. That's what it's all about! Keep it up, AH!

  • 22. Top Notch in cleanliness and service

    by: phooz

After visiting for the first time checking out a local shelter I was impressed with what I saw. This shelter welcome me with open arms and I was thrilled to hear that they didn't just take anyone who wanted to adopt. When touring the facility, I learned that they only accepted one litter of puppies at a time. This is great for the shelter as spread of disease can run rampant in litters of pups. Spay and neutering is done before adoption, blankets for dogs to lay on, immediate cleanup of "accidents", the cleaner smell. These are just a few of the things I noticed. I hope that through proper fundraising and generous donations that Animal House will be one of the top premier adoption houses in Northern Colorado.

    Pros

    Clean, knowledgeable, service, care

    Cons

    Zootoo could help with upgrades

  • 23. Love them!

    by: ajham

I first heard about Animal House last April in the newspaper when they were about to open. So naturally I told my husband that we had to at least go and look at their dogs. I absolutely LOVE what they stand for and do for these animals, by giving them the chance at life when everyone else is ready to give up. I adopted my Aussie from them and would go back for sure with my next adoption!

    Pros

    Their Mission

    Cons

    Not a thing

  • 24. great organization!

  • 25. Great Animal Rescue

    by: cnutz23

The people at animal house are awesome. I am currently fostering a dog that might not have had such a great future but they really stepped up to help out. He is such a great dog and I am so happy there is an organization in Fort Collins that cares about all dogs regardless of age or breed.

  • 28. Wonderful place

    by: celticwoman2

I work at the humane society and refer people here at least a few times everyday. We don't usually have many dogs and no it's not because we euth them all. We actually have a very high success rate of returning dogs to their owners. But, anyways, we like to pass people on to Animal House and try to give them business because this place helps us and takes many dogs that do not pass our evals and gives them a 2nd chance. We appreciate what they do for our community and for that we are truly thankful.

    Pros

    safe place

    Cons

    no kill

    by: Elineen

Animal House is a great organization that has really made a difference in the Fort Collins area. I am so happy this no-kill dog rescue is here to help the dogs of northern Colorado as well as dogs they have taken in from elsewhere such as California due to the wildfires. Great job Animal House! So glad we have you!

I think Animal House is one of the best animal shelters in Northern Colorado. The ladies who started this shelter are amazing and truly care about every single dog that passes through. They have done amazing work and hundreds of dogs have found forever homes thanks to what they do every day. I cant support them enough. Go visit them!!

  • 33. No shelter better!

    by: jbowser09

I have volunteered at Animal House quite a bit, and I truly believe that this is the best animal shelter out there. There's no one I've met who cares about the animals more and dedicates practically all of their lives to making sure those animals get the lives they deserve than the staff at Animal House. Beating a lot of odds, Animal House still manages to put the animals first, which is really what an animal shelter should be all about.

    Pros

Dedication, compassion, drive, friendliness, putting the animals first, the list goes on and on...

    Cons

    They're not being acknowledged enough!!

  • 34. Animal House Rocks!

    by: Alicat87

I am in love with Animal House. Not only is it run by compassionate and loving people, but the dogs there are great! The staff truly loves the dogs and is very committed to finding them perfect homes. \n\nMy foster, Fern, was one of the pups that was rescued from the California wildfires (Still up for adoption!) and I am sure that my next dog will come from here as well.

    Pros

    So many things!

    Cons

Need a better building and the money to get it :(

  • 36. Rescue done right!!!!

    by: KipperSnack1

This rescue/shelter is what happens when love, compassion, experience and common sense come together. Animal House has taken a chance and has saved almost 500 dogs from euthanasia since it opened in March of 2007. With no benefactors to help them, these two women, along with an army of wonderful volunteers have made a difference. The shelter is clean and the dogs play all day long in groups. Medical needs are tended to before adoptions take place. References are checked on potential adopters, a contract is signed and dogs are to be returned to Animal House if the dog doesn't work out. Everyone is invested in the life and well-being of each dog. The resonable adoption fee includes spay/neuter, vaccines, heartworm test and microchip. They have a wonderful staff of groomers and the grooming helps to pay some of the bills. If anyone is looking for a new buddy, this is the place to go.

    Pros

All dogs spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and references checked before adoptions, dogs are happy in play groups during the day

    Cons

Wish they had a benefactor that could help them get a bigger building

  • 37. Fantastic Environment

    by: ChanelFOCO

I love Animal House and volunteer there often, in fact I am the Volunteer Coordinator so if any one wants to volunteer please contact me and we can set it up!! Animal House is a fantastic rescue that also provides professional grooming services, so if you need your dog groomed please stop by or call!

    Pros

The shelter staff puts the animals first.

    Cons

The building is way too small for the number of dogs that need help
