The staff is friendly and truly cares about the animals. They show by appointment which helps in the decision making because you don't have to feel rushed or try to be helped in a crowd of people. Going for more than one visit with a potential pet makes SO much sense. More shelters should do that.

    Pros

small enough for great animal care

    Cons

    not many smaller dogs

  • 2. Provides training for animals to be comfortable in new home

    by: Emancini

Has a Homeward Bound program, where they expose rescued dogs and cats to the sights, smells and sounds of what a normal home life might be like, complete with TV, microwaves, alarm clocks, and flushing toilets. The animals get acclimated to being in a house with people coming and going all day long so that when it comes time for them to be adopted, they are accustomed to living in a home and are comfortable in that kind of environment.

    Pros

    Great idea and great execution

    Cons

    can get a little chaotic

    by: k9adoptions

Adopt-A-Dog is a smallish facilty, with a big heart. The staff all care so much about the animals there. The animals see knowledgeable, caring vets while they are housed at the kennel. Staff are always availble to answer questions or to recommend trainers and other help to new pet owners. The staff members do their best to interact with the animals in order to learn their personalities in order to place them in the home that best fits their needs. Part of the facilty is a house setting for the dogs to get used to home noises such as the doorbell, television, etc. Their animals have found homes all over the eastern seaboard and up to Canada. Definitely a place to check out.

    Pros

Knowledgeable staff, easy to travel to the facility

    Cons

    Small parking lot
