Diggin' Your Dog, a Reno-based pet treat and supplement manufacturer, has issued a voluntary recall for one lot of its Strippin' Chicks Pet Treats due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The lot being voluntarily withdrawn is:
Strippin' Chicks Pet Treats 5 oz Bag. Lot Code 250322 Use By Date: 2-23-14
According to a FDA release, the sample from the affected lot was produced on 8-30-12 and distributed in Colorado and Nevada. The release also stated that no other Diggin' Your Dog products, lots, or production dates are affected by this recall.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection in both humans and animals include abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, and fever. More severe symptoms can include bloody diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, muscle pain, eye pain, arthritis, and arterial infection. Human infection acquired from animal food products is typically the result of not washing the hands appropriately after handling the food (i.e., after feeding the pet).
In addition, the infection can be spread to other humans and animals through contact with the infected individual. If you or your pet have been in contact with the recalled product and are exhibiting any of the above symptoms, you should contact your human and/or veterinary health provider immediately.
Diggin' Your Dog advises customers who have purchased this lot code to stop feeding the product to their pet, remove the lot code from the packaging, and discard the contents.
A full refund, plus $1.00 to cover postage will be received by mailing the UPC and lot code to:
Diggin Your Dog, LLC
PO Box 17306
Reno, NV 89511
All refunds will be processed within ten business days (plus postage time).
