Kasel Associated Industries has voluntarily recalled two of their Boots and Barkley pet products: Roasted American Pig Ears and American Variety Pack Dog Treats due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The products were distributed nationally to Target stores in August of 2012 and include:

Kasel Industries ordered the recall after the Colorado Department of Agriculture conducted a routine sampling of finished products and found some of the products to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The recall, however, is not based on reports of illness in either pets or humans.
Salmonella has the potential to cause serious illness in animals that consume it, and for the humans who handle products that have been contaminated with it, especially if they do not engage in thorough hand washing after contact.
Salmonella infection is particularly concerning for those who are very young, very old, or are otherwise immune compromised. Symptoms to be observant of are diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting, and fever. Infected animals exhibit the same symptoms, as well as lethargy and loss of appetite. If your pet has consumed one of the recalled products, or you or a family member have handled the recalled products, you are advised to speak to your respective care giver. If you or your pet are exhibiting symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately.
