Tanner, a 2-year-old blind, epileptic Golden Retriever and Blair, a frightened mixed breed, haven’t had the easiest lives — though their lives were changed remarkably upon meeting each other.

Prior to meeting Blair at the Woodland West Animal Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tanner had been through two homes, neither of which was able to keep him because of nightly seizures and blindness. Blair had lived a life on the streets until she was shot.

The Woodland West Animal Hospital took both Tanner and Blair in and examined them, but it didn’t look like either had much of a future. In fact, hospital staff considered euthanasia to be the most humane option for Tanner because of his disabilities, and didn’t see Blair having high adoption potential because of her skittish behavior. And yet, despite the dismal odds, they got a second chance at life after being let into the yard to play with each other one afternoon.

Tanner and Blair immediately took to each other, quickly becoming fast friends. Beyond their friendship, the bond that has formed between them has also worked as a healing tool. In the short time Blair and Tanner have spent together, her fearful and nervous behavior has been reduced, and so have his epileptic seizures. Blair has also developed the habit of guiding Tanner around the facility — usually by holding onto his leash with her mouth!

Tanner and Blair, the dynamic duo, have become so close that they have been sharing a pen together at the clinic. Healing and now adoptable, the Woodland West Animal Hospital is looking for someone to adopt them as a pair.

"This is a relationship that's going to be ten plus years, hopefully," hospital director Dr. Mike Jones told People Pets. "We're looking for that needle-in-a-haystack type owner that will be able to handle the situation."
