RULES & REQUIREMENTS FOR PET IMPORT INTO BRUNEI

 

Following are the requirements for Prior Approval for Pet Cats/Dogs entering BRUNEI

 

1) Microchip:  A microchip is not required, but is recommended.

 

2) Rabies Vaccination & Certificate: All pets over 3 months of age must have an original Rabies Certificate.  This rabies vaccination must occur at least 60 days prior to departure, but within 360 days of departure.

 

3) Vet Health Certificate (Form 7001 in the US): This is the standard Health Certificate to be filled out by your accredited Veterinarian.   Must be issued within 10 days of the flight.

 

4) Government Vet Endorsement:

 The above referenced forms:

 

  • Microchip Implantation Record
  • Rabies Certificate
  • Vet Health Certificate

 

Must be sent to your local government veterinarian for their stamp of approval (for US exports, this is the USDA).  Please contact your local representative on the best way of handling this.

The certificate must contain:

 

a.       Owner’s name and address

b.       Animal’s data:  breed, sex, date of birth, size, color & particular signs.

c.       Country of Origin and transit points if applicable.

d.       Statement:  that the animal has been examined within 10 days of departure, and not showing any clinical signs of diseases.

 

5) Quarantine:  All animals must be quarantined for 180 days unless they originate in one of the following countries:  Australia, Ireland (Rep. of), New Zealand, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

 

6) Import Permit:  An import permit is required for dogs, cats and birds entering Brunei.  It can be obtained by contacting the Ministry of Agriculture.

PET INFORMATION

The Main roles of the Animal Quarantine Unit of Department of Agriculture are to prevent introduction of exotic diseases and disease agents into the country, as well as to facilitate trans-border movement of movement of animals and animal-based food products.

 

 

  1. This regulation is in pursuant of the Subsidiary Legislation, "Quarantine and Prevention of Disease (Animals) Regulations" sections 91 and 92 in Chapter 47 of Laws of Brunei Darussalam.

 

 

  1. Import of animals or pets must be declared at the portal of entry or exit for quarantine inspection. Importation must be accompanied by relevant document as follows:

 

 

  1. Import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture.

 

 

  1. Veterinary Health Certificate issued by a veterinarian authorised in the country concerned within 7-day period before departure.

 

 

  1. MAINTENANCE OF ANIMAL/S IN QUARANTINE (APPLICABLE ONLY TO CAT AND DOG)

 

 

  1. Importation of cats and dogs are required to comply with the instructions stated in the circular 9/1973.

 

 

  1. The quarantine facilities at the animal quarantine service in Brunei-Muara and Belait district are free of charge for the time being.

 

 

  1. The owner or importer must take their own arrangement for the maintenance of the animals during the entire quarantine period. This includes feeding and sanitation of kennel.
