Pusuke, the world’s oldest living dog, passed away on Monday at 26 years of age.
Pusuke was a mixed-breed, born in 1985. Living with his owner Yumiko Shinohara in Japan, Pusuke has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest living dog since last December.
"I’m so sad,” said Shinohara. “I would like to tell him that I appreciate he lived a long, healthy life."
Shinohara also said that Pusuke lived a very healthy lifestyle, eating well and going on walks two times a day. Pusuke is believed to have died from natural causes associated with old age.
The longest lifespan held by a dog according to the Guinness World Records is 29 years and 5 months, achieved by Bluey, an Australian cattle-dog.
