Dog Saves the Lives of Two Dumped Kittens

A litter of kittens was mercilessly enclosed inside of a cat food bag and dumped in the middle of the street. But thanks to the heroic actions of a dog named Regan, two of the kittens were saved and are now available for adoption from an Iowa rescue group.

The kittens, named Tipper and Skipper, were left in a Meow Mix bag in the street, where they were run over by at least one vehicle.  Regan grabbed the bag from the road and carried it home with him, where he whined until his owner opened it.

It was impossible to tell how many kittens were placed in the bag originally, but within the bloody bag were two seriously injured survivors. "It was not a pretty sight," said Linda Blakely of Iowa’s Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary.

Blakely fostered them but was not sure they would survive the first few days. Tipper and Skipper were traumatized from the experience and had to be bottle fed every two hours. Three months later, they have since recovered and now look like ordinary, healthy kittens — kittens that are available for adoption at the animal sanctuary.

Blakely hopes this story affects pet owners enough for them to remember that there is always a safe method for finding new homes for pets if you are unable to take care of them.

"Whether them being dumped out was an act of cruelty or desperation we will never know, but we want people to know there's better ways," said Blakely.

Many kudos to Regan for saving the surviving kittens. It's impossible to imagine the terror and pain they endured.

Hopefully Tipper and Skipper will soon have Forever Homes.

To the person who put the kittens in the bag and left it in the street, there is no punishment strong enough for someone so heartless.

Whoever threw those kittens away in a bag on a busy street was not desperate. They were stupid and cruel.
