From Michigan to Miami, that’s the distance Steve Jordan flew for a new dog. Facing euthanasia at the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter, a two-year old bull-terrier mix by the name of Nick was rescued and given a home. All because Jordan saw an image of Nick posted on Facebook.
When Nick's picture came on Steve Jordan's News Feed, on the exact day Nick was to be put down, his reaction was frantic. "When I discovered Nick on Facebook, there was a time period there where I wasn't sure we would be able to get things done in time to save him, and that's very emotional, but it worked," Jordan said.
Once contacted, Rodriguez knew the dog’s leash on life would be a short and tight one. She literally had to run. Speed and fate on her side once arriving to the shelter, she managed to get Nick out of there and on a 2-day road trip to Michigan with a new master, toward a new home and new life. Jordan boarded the next available flight to see his new friend.
"Put it this way. I haven’t cried in the past two years more than I have in the past 24 hours trying to get here to save him… He's gonna see snow for the first time this winter.
It’s becoming a more common thing on the Internet -- pet lives being saved by social-networking. In fact, since several Miami animal rescuers in January came together to form the group Urgent Dogs of Miami over 100 dogs, including Nick, have been saved.
