Party Animal Recalls Dog Food That May Contain Pentobarbital

By Megan Sullivan    April 27, 2017 at 03:50PM

Party Animal, a West Hollywood, California-based pet food company, has recalled two lots of canned dog food that may contain pentobarbital.

The recall affects the following two products:

Product Name: Cocolicious Beef & Turkey

Size: 13 oz. can

Lot Number: #0136E15204 04

Best by Date: July 2019

Product Name: Cocolicious Chicken & Beef

Size: 13 oz. can

Lot Number: #0134E15 237 13

Best by Date: August 2019

On April 13, a retailer in Texas notified Party Animal that its customer had presented samples of these two products to a testing lab, and that the results had tested positive for pentobarbital, according to a statement from Party Animal.

Out of an abundance of caution, the company said it is retrieving the remainder of these two lots nationwide. Party Animal also said it contacted the two probable retailers that sold the customer the food in question so the company could forward cans from these lots to an accredited independent laboratory for testing.

The food had been manufactured and distributed in 2015, the company said. Party Animal is working with distributors and retailers to retrieve any additional beef-flavored products manufactured during this 2015 production period that might remain on shelves.

In addition, Party Animal has submitted many recent lots of its beef flavors for testing and all have tested negative for any pentobarbital, the company stated. Party Animal is awaiting test results for the 2015 lots.
