Claudia’s Canine Cuisine, a manufacturer and distributor of dog treats, has issued a voluntary recall for two of its cake products due to possible mold contamination.

The recalled products, which were sold to approximately 130 PetSmart stores, include:

  • Dogcandy® Brand of Holiday Hound Cake (7.5 Oz.), UPC: 692614010041
  • Blueberry Hound Cake (7.5 Oz), UPC: 692614010058

The affected products were packaged in a 7.5 ounce paw print bag marked with the best-by- date of 08-2015. This date can be found on the ingredient label on the back of the Claudia’s Canine Cuisine package, above the UPC label.

According to a FDA press release, the cakes were manufactured specifically for the PetsSmart Corporation and distributed in 36 states.

Claudia’s Canine Cuisine’s possible affected products were distributed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Mold was discovered after the product was delivered to the selected stores. During the investigation, the company found that due to the cakes being packaged while they were still warm the moisture level was higher.

As of this date, no related illnesses have been reported.

Customers who have purchased these products are urged to discontinue use immediately. Recalled items may be returned to your nearest PetSmart store for a full refund or sent to Claudia's Canine Cuisine, 100 Four Paws Lane, Maumelle, Arkansas 72113. Shipping fees will be reimbursed. For more information, please contact Claudia’s Canine Cuisine at 1-501-851-0002, Monday – Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CST, or send an email to: info@claudiascaninecuisine.com.
