According to a press release from Loving Pets, the possible salmonella contamination was due to a single finished ingredient that was supplied to the company from a U.S.-based supplier. Out of an abundance of caution, Loving Pets recalled a wider range of lot numbers (noted above).

No illnesses, injuries, or complaints have been reported.

Salmonella can affect animals who eat the recalled products and poses a risk to humans who handle contaminated pet products.

Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet display these symptoms after consuming the recalled product, contact your veterinarian.

Symptoms of salmonella in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their health care provider.

Consumers may return any bags of treats with the above lot numbers to their place of purchase. For additional information, call 866-599-7387 or visit lovingpetsproducts.com.
