Fur Babies?

Some of us say we got a dog because we’re too busy with our careers to have children. But if you really think about it, our dogs are just like children. Small, furry, adorable children who never grow up, so to speak. So it’s really a bit of a win-win situation, isn’t it? To support our argument, we’ve put together the top three reasons why dogs are remarkably similar to children.

#3 Puppy Pads and Pooper Scoopers

Diapers, anyone? If you think about it, they’re all pretty much the same thing. Basically, you’re going to be cleaning up after your dog for years to come. Yet, like a child (or a baby, really), you’re not going to ever resent it, because they’re just so darn cute!

#2 Snuggle Time

Like babies and little kids (sometimes big kids, too), dogs need lots of snuggle time. When they're scared, when it's late at night, or when you've just walked in the door. Basically, anytime is perfect for a snuggling session. We have to say, the one way dogs have it over kids is … they never outgrow snuggle time. It's great! Dogs will never get embarrassed in front of their friends when you try to hug them at the ripe old age of thirteen.

#1 'Look At Me' Syndrome

Just like kids, dogs are relentless attention seekers. Dogs love it when you play with them, talk to them, or take them for walks. In fact, dogs are like children in the way they need (in their formative years) guidelines and barriers to teach them right from wrong. Yep, kids and dogs both need the plenty of attention. And love. Lots of love. But let’s face it. That’s very easy to do.

  • can't see slideshow

This is the second time recently I've been unable to view a slideshow on this website as the 'next' buttons won't work. Never happened before, I can view slideshows on other websites, but now suddenly twice on petmd I'm having this problem. Anyone else having problems? Thanks.

They don't work for me, either.

  • Empty nest's refill.

Pets can be considered the substitutes for the young children who have developed over time into independent individuals. Pets can refill the emptied nest when we are starting to feel the completion of our responsibility and a new listlessness.
