1. The name "Isobel" is derived from the spelling of "Isabel", a Spanish name which means "God is my Oath". The Scottish changed the "a" to an "o", which became a new name with it's own meaning; "Pledged to God". Some people may also have named their pet after famous people named Isobel, such as Queen Isabella of Spain, who approved of and endorsed Christopher Columbus in his quest to find new worlds.
