Black Labrador Retriever
Newfoundland Dog, Mix
An adotable dog in Boiling Springs, PA
Update 12/6/2013. Doug is now a year old. He continues to grow in leaps and bounds. He recently went for his first grooming appointment and did well. Doug has recently shown interest in watching the outdoor channel. He loves to watch the animals, especially deer and ducks. He will stop and watch the TV and bark at it. He also sometimes watches movies with other dogs in them. He continues to love to play fetch and retrieve and tug of war, all of which are his favorites. The longer Dougie is in his foster home, the more his foster family discovers how much of a people person and pack animal Doug really is. He loves to be with his people all the time and yet doesn't mind taking the occasional nap under the kitchen table or near the stove while his foster mommy cooks.
Doug is a happy boy and still very much a puppy. Taking chase by grabbing a piece of laundry or two when your back is turned is lots of fun. Doug is still looking for his forever home and hopes that someone will pick him soon. He has been in his foster home since the end of August. Won't you consider giving Dougie a new and loving home for the holidays? He won't let you down with all the love and attention he will give you. He will even make you laugh and tease you if you give him half the chance. He loves people and wants to have a pack of his own. Won't you be his pack???
Update 11/9/2013. Doug has now been in his foster home since August. He has learned a lot and continues to do so daily. Recently Doug took a cat test and passed with flying colors. He also now has a trainer and dog walker helping his foster family. He has gotten to go experience a dog park with his walker and made some new doggie friends whom he loved playing with. He continues to love to go on trips and car rides and will run and jump in the car if you give him the chance. Doug is getting used to younger children in his foster home and would now probably do okay in home with children 6 years and up. He continues to love his long walks, at least once a day or every other day. His favorite game is fetch. He can now catch a tennis ball in midair as well as his treats if you toss them just right to him. He recently got to run in large rain puddles from backyard flooding at his fosters home during the storm in October. His water dog personality really shined and showed through. He can now also hand his paw to you when you give the command to sit and then say paw. He continues to love belly rubs but also has fallen in love with full body rubs especially at his back legs and withers area, as well as rump. He loves to climb into bed and snuggle up close to you and just enjoys being petted and love upon.
Doug will be a valued family member to a great and loving home. He is growing bigger daily. He is now we believe over 60 lbs. We are not sure since it has been a while since he was weighed. Doug would also do well as a police dog or a rescue dog or working in an airport. His energy and personality make him a great candidate for this also. Either way won't you give Doug, Dougie as his foster family calls him a chance at his forever home that he is so lovingly looking for.

Update 9/27/2013. Doug has been in his foster home for 4 weeks now. His foster family is getting to know him better day by day. Doug is a very high energy dog that requires 2 walks, runs, or bike rides (you ride he walks or runs along side) a day. He also loves to play tug of war, fetch and retrieve (balls, Frisbees, yellow plastic waffle bats, etc.), and to wrestle. He has gained some weight and is now 58 lbs. We think Doug is a Black Flat-Coated Labrador Retriever/Newfoundland Mix, but it is all a guess as with many rescue kids. He still loves to go on car rides and jumps into the car right away, as if to say well let's go. He is not suited for a sedentary life style or for commitment phobes. If you are looking for an active and playful dog Doug is your guy.
Doug has been around small children, but would do best with older children, ages 12 and up. He would also do well in a home with other high energy dog(s). Doug has some digestive issues and seems to be intolerant of grains, especially anything containing oats, oatmeal, or oat flour. He loves rice however and tolerates it well. Doug has a big heart and at the end of the day is a loyal friend. He will kiss your tears away when you are sad, lay at your feet while you work at your desk or computer, and will talk your ear off if you have the time to listen (he likes to bark). Doug loves all the belly, chest, and chin rubs that he can get.
Posted 8/24/2013. Doug came to his foster home after he was found roaming as a stray. Doug is a happy, high energy dog who loves to play fetch, tug of war, take long walks (even in the rain), receive endless belly rubs that would last for hours if he could have them (you will tire out before he does), and hugs and kisses. He currently weighs about 55 lbs and is estimated to be 1-2 years old. He is such a sweet boy and is great with children. He loves car rides and does not get car sick. Doug is an exceptionally fast learner and already knows come and sit. He is currently working on leave it, stay, down, and off. Doug is also what you would call a "water dog" he has webbed paws that are massive and a tail like a rudder. He loves to try to be a lap dog and at times will put his front legs on your lap or around your neck to give you hugs and kisses. His soft light brown eyes and black, soft, shiny, water repellent coat make you melt. His kisses and hugs will take any of the days stresses away. Doug will make a great family member that will be dedicated for life.
