(Smooth Coat Saluki)

Donât let the shining vanilla coat fool you. The touches of cinnamon on her head and shoulders better describe the spicy personality of this compact female Saluki name Princess Doha Bianca. This transplant from Doha, Qatar is a cuddlier, loves to be covered up, and wants to be with her humans. She also loves the thrill of the hunt and running quickly through the house, over the sofa and up into your lap with a toy to play a rousing game of tug. She can get over-excited however, but a gentle âenoughâ and a hand on her back slows her down.
Super smart and people-oriented, she learns quickly and generally seeks to please. She is reliably house-trained and crates cooperatively without complaintâunless she feels she has been forgotten. Then she will vocalize a little to remind you that you have forgotten to let her join you. Her vocabulary is growing and she tries to engage our Greyhounds in a ârooâ conversation upon rising in the morning. She has mastered sit, come, down, wait and is ready to expand that vocabulary-especially if accompanied by a âgood girlâ that always gets her tail wagging.
She loves to chase and retrieve a tennis ball or play chase like a cat. In fact, she is, in many ways, very cat-like. The shortest route is the best and the softest bed is the most desirable, especially if a human also occupies it. She will be a good jogging companion (on leash only of course) as far as energy and stamina is concerned, but she does have a high prey drive and is easily distracted. She is learning to curb her desire to chase and responds to calm, but determined, restraint. Patrolling the fenced back yard before going to bed is one of her favorite things.
It would be preferable if she becomes the only dog in a family or possibly with an older, non-alpha dog owned by humans who are experienced with strong alpha females and alert to animal emotion signs. Smaller dogs, cats or other small critters are not an option in this girlâs life. She responds well to gentle direction.
She will be a fine companion for older, responsible children who will respect her size, be gentle with her and understand that, because she loves to run and chase, she cannot ever be allowed off leash (as no sighthound should) outside a secure enclosure and every care should be taken to keep her from escaping the house or yard (minimum 6ft fencing required). She also should not be left outdoors for any length of time alone. Like a cat, she is very agile and determined and has been known to climb trees. Since she hears and sees anything that moves within a block, she is a good watch dog.
The Princess Bianca is a wonderfully rewarding companion and playmate. She loves to be with people and needs attention and affection, as well as activity and exercise. Not a dog to be ignored, she will make you laugh with her antics to get your attention or include you in her world. Curling up under a cover, watching fluffy white things on television, sharing her stuffy toys, and watching life go by out the front window are her favorite pass times.
