An adotable dog in Clovis, CA

  • Adult

Starbuck – 2 year old chocolate male X – 62 lbs.
Starbuck was surrendered by his owners to a local shelter because he was too playful, dug in the yard and chewed inappropriate items - all things that can be corrected with proper care and training. Starbuck was frightened so badly at being dumped at the shelter that he couldn't be contained in his kennel and was trying to break out, which caused him to be scheduled to be killed. Lab Rescue received a call from a worker pleading to save this beautiful boy, and of course we did. No dog should be euthanized because the owners didn’t do right by him.

Starbuck has improved greatly considering he was never taught anything by his previous owners. He’s still a bit skittish at quick movements by people; we have our theories as to why. He had difficulty at first learning basic commands because he has a stubborn streak, but is doing much better. Starbuck knows sit and wait. He walks well on leash, is house trained, crate trained and has learned to ride in the car. He actually goes in and out of his crate by choice now because he knows it is a safe and comfy place to call his own when he needs it. Starbuck is playful and wants nothing more than to be with his people, love and be loved.

Starbuck will require an active or athletic family with older or teenaged children that will give him consistency and physical as well as mental stimulation. He’s a young dog with energy that would make a great running partner. In order for Starbuck to continue becoming a good canine family member, an obedience class would be needed and an owner experienced with larger size dogs. A secure backyard is a must. Starbuck can be picky about the doggie company he keeps, so would do best as your one and only boy in a home without cats.

Overall, Starbuck is a loving, sweet natured boy with a beautiful chocolate coat. The people who surrendered him indicated that he was a Labrador/Weimaraner mix. He is in great physical shape and just waiting for the right home to call his own. The family that he goes to will get unconditional love from this once scared and neglected boy. It’s time for Starbuck to shine!
