Interaction with dogs: Rocky is great with all dogs of all shapes and sizes. He loves to wrestle, play, and run but Rocky could also do well in a house as the only dog because he loves being the main attraction too!
Interaction with cats: Rocky's current foster family has cats and he tries to play with them which the cats don't like too much so we are recommending a home without cats.
Interaction with children: Rocky loves playing with anyone who is willing to play and that includes kids! He has frequent play sessions with children from his fosters extended family. Rocky absolutely loves running, playing, and chasing. Rocky has learned to play gently with the children, he listens and obeys their commands.
Activity Level: Average. Rocky loves to run, play and wrestle but he is not over-active and does fine with regular walks and play sessions. After a long hike in the woods he loves to curl up and nap.
Leash manners: Rockyâs leash manners are improving on a daily basis. He is an excellent walker when he has on his front harness.
Housetraining: Fully housetrained.
Major Personality Traits: Rocky is a very silly and funny pup. He absolutely loves staring at himself in the mirror. Sometimes he trips over his own legs. He loves to chase and bite his own tail like itâs a toy. He has been waiting for a family for much too long and really deserves a chance!
Special Needs: We think Rocky may be deaf but he doesn't notice this disability himself and acts just like any other happy go-lucky dog. He has acclimated to family like while in foster care and his impaired hearing does not require any special medical care or expense. His foster mom has taught him commands with hand signals too so he's already trained and eager to please!
Amount of additional training needed: Rocky has already learned sit, lay down, here, wait. He is currently learning "stay" and "watch me" too. He is doing great on his leash and barely pulls unless he get excited and sees another dog or person he wants to go play with.
A word from Rocky:
Hello, my name is Spook but my foster mommy calls me Rocky because I love to wrestle, she says I act just Rocky Balboa! Thunder's Angels rescued me from a gassing shelter in West Virginia where animal control was going to kill me due to lack of space -- thankfully, Thunder's Angels brought me to a foster home here in Philly to save my life. And since I'm in Philly now, I think my new name is very fitting! I first came to Pennsylvania in the middle of a hurricane and I wasnât fond of the wet weather and scary wind. But when my foster mom picked me up she had a really yummy bone for me and that made me feel better. In my foster home I live with two cats and an older female Pit Bull. Sometimes I try and chase the cats, well actually I only chase one of them because the other one fights back. But I donât want to fight, I only want to play. I really like Rella, my foster sister, Pit Bull but sometimes she gets annoyed with my playfulness as well. She is much older and she often bosses me around she thinks of me as her annoying little brother but I'm such a sweet boy I don't even try to challenge her back. My foster home is right near Fairmount Park and I love going for hikes so hopefully I can still do that in my new home...or maybe you have a fenced yard for me to play fetch in? I absolutely LOVE meeting and playing with other dogs and am not dog-aggressive at all. I also like taking long naps. I often get to play with my foster momâs nephews, 8 and 5 years old, I love when they come over⦠thatâs when the fun begins. We play lots of games and I chase them sometimes. I will tell you this, I am very loyal, silly and sometime stubborn, I also think I am very handsome and love to stare at myself in the mirror. But I spent a lot of time alone and on my own so I still get scared and need a little confidence boost once in a while. I've been waiting for an adoptive home for a long time now and would like a family to love and call my own -- if you're looking for a best friend, I might just be it!
