Jessica Vogelsang, DVM, is a person who loves too many topics to be able to stick to one descriptor: writing, dogs, communication, cats, fitness, cooking, family.  When pressed, she will grudgingly narrow it down to describing herself as an author, veterinarian, and animal lover.

After graduating from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Vogelsang moved to San Diego and worked in both emergency and general practice small animal medicine. In 2009 she also began a blog, which was unheard of at the time in the medical field. Pawcurious.com, still running strong today, helped establish her as one of the earliest veterinary presences on the Internet.

Dr. Vogelsang has always felt passionately about the power of good communication when it comes to solidifying the relationship between clients and their veterinarians. She has written extensively for multiple media outlets, spoken to national veterinary conferences, and recently finished her first memoir All Dogs Go to Kevin, which will be released in July 2015.

In 2013, Dr. Vogelsang joined Paws into Grace, a San Diego practice that focuses on in-home hospice care for pets. This work has helped mold her current interest in improving the end of life experience for both clients and pets. Birdsong, the first comprehensive end-of-life program of its kind, is Dr. Vogelsang’s favorite project to date.

Because she doesn’t have enough to keep her busy, Dr. Vogelsang also loves to volunteer internationally with various veterinary relief organizations, such as World Vets. Her travels have taken her to Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Tanzania, and Nicaragua. When all that work is done she happily retreats home to her husband, two children in elementary school, her Golden Retriever, and her nutso cat.
