"Cleanliness is next to dogliness." At least according to Brianne Leary, creator and co-inventor of the Paw Plunger … which is, by the way, the best thing we've ever seen to help keep the dog park out of the living room.

Every part of the country has a season where the ground turns to mud, slush, or a toxic cocktail of chemicals and salt. But where does that crap inevitably end up after you walk your fur babies? Sure, in your house. But where specifically? If you answered absolutely everywhere (!), then listen closely. It just might save you from throwing away that wonderful rug you just bought.


(As you know Haute or Not? is based in Miami. So our experience with, and our review of, the Paw Plunger is based on the summer rainy season and the muddy dog park that always comes with it.)


Gordi was the obvious choice to initially test the Paw Plunger for a couple of reasons: (1) The sample we received was size large, and (2) Gordi's big Labrador feet are notorious for holding up a ton of mud. But we say initial tester because as soon as Gordi's pals around the loft saw how well it worked, many of the bigger pups were sending their humans over to borrow the Paw Plunger every time it rained. Which, in Miami, is almost everyday in July and August!


Like many of the cool new things we get to try out, there is often an adjustment period, and the Paw Plunger was no exception. Gordi doesn't much like having her feet touched, so the first time we tried using the Paw Plunger we had one pissed off Lab and an equally frustrated human. But the next time we tried it, calmer heads prevailed. The result: four clean paws and bedsheets sans footprints.


The genius of the Paw Plunger's design is its simplicity. Just place the dirty paw into the "giant coffee mug," move it up and down (gently!), and let the system of soft and brushes and water reservoir inside do their stuff. Voilá! Clean paws. Just make sure you do one paw in at a time.
