The Art of Racing in the Rain ... a novel by Garth Stein

“That which you manifest is before you.” Among the many great quotes in this novel, this is by far our favorite. So if you want to manifest one of the most enjoyable stories you may ever read, get this book!

The Art of Racing in the Rain tells the story of “the journey,” life's journey. The twist: it is voiced by Enzo, an “every dog” of dubious lineage that garners the “wisdom of the ages” courtesy of the National Geographic Channel and who is only two thumbs away from his humanity.

On the last night of his life, Enzo reflects on the life he has shared with his human family: Denny, Eve, and Zoe. Through Enzo's eyes (an interesting perspective), we witness the best and worst of human behavior and learn a little something about car racing, too. But what is most intriguing about The Art of Racing in the Rain is it forces you to do some soul-searching.

Literary critics often use superlatives when they review a novel they love -- splendid, joyful, irresistible, for instance. All of these words, in fact, were used by reviewers describing this novel. But you know what? They were spot on in this case!

Get The Art of Racing in the Rain, grab your fur baby, a box of tissues, your favorite beverage, and get ready for a literary experience you won't soon forget. I guarantee you will never look at a dog the same way again!

THIS JUST IN ...

We had the great pleasure of meeting with Garth Stein the other evening before a book signing here in Miami and he wanted to give Haute or Not? Readers an “inside scoop.” Stein has just signed a deal with Universal Studios to film the movie, The Art of Racing in the Rain. It will star Patrick Dempsey (McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy), who we absolutely love !!!

How Haute is that?

Please share your thoughts !!!

I just got this book because a book store was closing and I picked up a few books, including the art of racing in the rain. My son in law and grandson race. I'll have to check as to the accuracy of the racing bits. But the whole book sure knew how to draw out feelings in me. I'll have to be sure to recommend it to my book club.I can't say enough about I loved the book.I don't remember any book I loved more.

I agree with Michael. I finished reading the book a few weeks ago and I seem to be thinking about the people in the bookas well as Enzo. a I grew up with a golden retriever whom I saved from my neighbors. They were going to the "dog shelter" with her. I belive the book makes you think beyond what you can learn in other types of books. I just purchased the audio book and I just read about a movie for 2012 release. I hope it comes sooner.

Thank you.

A lot of books are like popcorn. You enjoy the experience, devour it and move on. Then there are books that after you finish you keep thinking about the characters and the story line. If the book is truly special it becomes part of who we are. The Art of Racing in the Rain is that kind of transformational book because at it's core it is a story with a "soul." By that I mean, it is more then the sum of it's parts and that is because the reader is drawn into the web of the story and you experience rather then read it. A great achievement, an even greater story.
