All over the Web you can find beautiful tributes to pets long past. It’s a bittersweet testament to their enduring emotional hold over us, their humans. And it’s proof enough for me that good pets never die. It may not be traditional, but by some measures a URL is better than a headstone.

Not for me, though. While I’ll always immortalize my pets by blogging about them, I’ll also engage in the familiar rituals. In fact, today I celebrated the first anniversary of Sophie Sue’s passing by placing an order for a 4" x 8" granite marker, with her name and dates, to rest beneath the tree we planted in her memory.

I thought about getting a Sophie tattoo, but I’m still too chicken to ink my skin.

So how about you? What do you do to remember your pets of the past?

PS: Here's this year's Sophie tribute. She's sitting just about a yard away from where her tree is planted.
