Happy Halloween! And a costume contest...of course

October 31, 2009 / (40) comments

How about a fun one? Here’s Slumdog in his Halloween splint. And below, another few pics of his rooster getup amid his “flock.” I’ve seen better costumes (go to Lincoln Road on Miami Beach on Halloween weekend and the dog frocks will astound you), but it’s pretty funny to us.

How about yours? Submit your own photos in the comment section and I’ll judge for myself. The winner gets a free month of any non-Rx flea and tick product we vets carry.

btw, will the winners of my “Fully Vetted” new blog title contest please lob me an email so I can send them each a six-month supply of their favorite product? Thanks!

It’s been a long week. Thanks for letting me off the hook with this “easy” post...

Slummy and the splint:

Look, Ma, I'm a chicken!

Here's Poppy getting in on the act with her "law goat" getup:

And Slummy playing the chicken role to a "T":

Your turn...

PS: oh, and if you didn't dress up your own, you can still participate (though not for a prize) by pointing out the best costumes you've seen in others' pets. Honor system.

Luce says thank you! Or, well, at least I do. She probably still says "Imma kill you in your sleep. Just you wait."

:D

OK, I'm closing it and picking the winner. Will Luce's owner please email me and let me know her address and the type and size of non-Rx flea product she desires??

Congrats!!

Barb-

I actually do dress two of my three (feline) boys up most years... unfortunately, this year one of them was having some issues and Halloween was spent keeping an eye on him, so we didn't really bother with costumes. Maybe next year, though. They're remarkably tolerant and don't seem to mind it at all! It didn't occur to me to even try it until I threw some bandanas on them for a Christmas party and realized nobody cared. I thought I was going to get eaten alive, but they were all about the extra attention they were getting because none of the attendees had seen a cat in a bandana before.

Now? They've created a monster, haha.

I'm not holding my breath that this well work... but this *may* be my guy as Harry Potter!

here's my husband trying to hold them for last year's photo....they are pulling the costume's off one another...it was hysterical.

by on 11/01/2009 01:58pm

Oh how precious!

I love them all!  I got a special chuckle from your little ones, Sarah, totally engulfed in their devil and dinosaur (?) costumes and also Luce, because some of these pitties are SOOOOO tolerant and such big ol pushovers, that pic is totally the advertisement for it.

I dare not dress my cats . . .

12
by on 11/01/2009 12:35pm

Posey: Sounds like the skunk costume was especially apropos.

btw, So far, Luce is winning. She looks so pathetic, how could she not?

barri: Here's my direct email address: khulyp@bellsouth.net (everyone else has it, why not you?).

I would send in pics of my kitties in their costumes, but last time I tried them up, Max left me a "treat" on the couch.  : )  Suffice to say that his skunk costume is packed away this year.

14
by on 11/01/2009 11:21am

OMG, they are all terrific!

Katie, what a photo---the colors are extraordinary!

No kitties? How come?

Severely abused pit bull in search of loving, costume-free home. Poor Luce. She has to put up with so much.

Tucker tolerates it, not happily, but after 9 years he's accepted it.

Awesome pictures..

I don't have a clue what why I can't send them.. I tried going to contact us.. I am able to send them in an email, but can't copy, and paste them.. I even had a friend come over to help.. UGHHH

Oh, after facing the shame of Winnie receiving a 6 out of 9 BCS by the school's nutritionist during a body condition scoring wetlab, Ms. Winnie went on a diet... she's now a trim 4.5/9 :)

19
by on 11/01/2009 01:43am

Awww, Winnie. What kind of Corgi are you that you're not over by the fridge? In shape, too. But then, I guess that follows.

Barri: Send me the pic via the 'contact us' button in Dolittler's navigation bar.

by on 10/31/2009 11:36pm

Winnie is only mildly tolerant of costumes and clothing, so her skeleton costume is the most we've ever gotten away with...

by on 10/31/2009 09:34pm

Hi Doc

I don't know where to send the pictures..

We just got back from the Greenich Village Halloween parade..  Some of the dog costumes were unbelievable.. I'm relieved that Socks was safe at home

22
by on 10/31/2009 09:21pm

My dog wouldn't let me put a costume on her, but she did oblige by carrying round a plastic severed hand and dropping it at the feet of trick or treaters. It was a little unnerving, the way she gnawed at the bloody end.

23
by on 10/31/2009 08:31pm

Aww, all the pictures are great! My cats are looking at me incredulously. "Yeah, we know you have costumes. We also know you haven't cut our nails this week. You really want to try that?"

I'm just going to enjoy all ya'alls :D

Eek, hate to burst anyone's bubble, but "Fully Vetted" is already the name of a veterinary blog (fullyvetted.com) that's been around awhile...  I still like Dolittler best.

Thank you Dr. K!  I've had plenty of practice photographing my girl.  We got her almost a year and a half ago and my flickr account has over 2000 photos of her!  She seems to like to pose, as you can see!
