Q. I just adopted an 8 week old lab. How do I get him to respond to his name?
A. Use it non stop. If he does something good say." Good (pets name)" same thing if he does something wrong. Say his name randomly until u get his attention. It'll take a couple days but he'll understand it and start responding over time.
A. I would highly recommend signing your dog up for a local puppy class in your area. Not only will you learn how to teach obedience commands but you will also be able to learn about all the ways to properly take care of and raise your puppy. Puppies take a lot of work and I consider it a full time job for the first 8 months! You will learn how to teach the dog it's name in puppy class. Say the dog's name very excited and wait for a head swirl to look at you. The dog doesn't know at the moment you're saying it's name it's just hearing you say something exciting. Once your dog does a head swirl you say yes or click (clicker training) and capture the moment with the release word. Right after you capture the moment with the release word give a treat. You will learn about marker words and capturing the moment in puppy class, it will help you teach other commands too.
