Q. My Dog Gets Carsick Little 6 Pounder Maltipoo. How can I Help Him?
DR. CHRISTIE LONG, D.V.M., C.V.A.
A. There's a prescription drug called Cerenia. In its tablet form it's pretty effective against vomiting due to motion sickness. Your vet can prescribe this for you. Sometimes the over the counter drug dramamine is helpful for car sickness in dogs as well. Ask your vet for a recommended dosage based on your dog's size. If you decide to use it be sure you don't buy the non-drowsy formula, as it contains caffeine.
You might also try transporting your dog in a crate or carrier in the car, as limiting his ability to move around might help as well.
