Q. I have a 2 year old German short haired pointer. He has a growth on his neck and spread up into his ear help

Answered By

A. Your dog's problem sounds pretty complicated. It's concerning that your dog is so young with what sounds like an aggressive problem. He needs to have a biopsy, and if he's had one and it was only a fine needle biopsy with no diagnosis, then he needs an excisional biopsy performed to take a piece of the growth. That usually provides a definitive diagnosis regarding what is causing the problem, and then we can determine how to treat it from there.

If you would like to consult about your dog's specific problems, please request one and we can talk further.

A. See your veterinarian for an exam and diagnostics if it is spreading or causing discomfort. A simple needle aspirate biopsy submitted for pathology can frequently determine the makeup of most lumps.
