Q. MY PUPPY ATE 8000IU OF VITAMIN D, DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING? SHE WEIGHS APPROX 13LBS
DR. CHRISTIE LONG, D.V.M., C.V.A.
A. The maximum recommended dose of vitamin D3 for dogs is about 3000IU per day. At 8000 IU I would recommend inducing vomiting to remove as much as possible from the system. Contact your veterinarian or go right in to the clinic, where they can administer drugs that will cause your puppy to vomit. Depending on how much is brought up they may also recommend the administration of activated charcoal in order to absorb the residual amount in the gut.
