Q. I have a 13 yr. old kitty. He's been to the vet, blood work came back "normal", but he's constantly hungry. He drinks plenty of water. Whats up ?
DR. CHRISTIE LONG, D.V.M., C.V.A.
A. My first question would be to wonder if your vet checked your kitty's thyroid levels, since hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland) causes exactly the symptoms you're describing, and typically happens in middle-aged to older cats. It's not part of routine blood work many times, so definitely call your vet and make sure they checked for this.
If you'd like I can review your cats symptoms and labwork with you and I can try to offer more advice. Just select the "consult" button.
