Q. I recently adopted a 7 month old kitten from a shelter. I also have an 11 year old indoor cat. My older cat is having watery eyes & occasional sneezin

A. It's possible that your kitten is causing stress to your older cat, which has caused her to have a bout of viral rhinitis. In cats this is typically caused by the herpes virus (not the human herpes virus - cats have their own) and it sits dormant in the body until there is a stressful situation (i.e., a new kitten). I recommend having your older cat seen by your vet, who can tell you for sure whether this is a viral problem, or perhaps it there's a secondary bacterial infection, and start appropriate therapy.
