Q. I have a Persian Siamese & 2 dogs. What common flea shampoo can I use on them both?

Answered By

A. Your local pet store will sell many varieties. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of your location so I can't recommend what is available locally.

Clerks at the store should be able to assist you. Remember some products are safe for dogs & cats, some may only be safe for one or the other. If you have multiple animals to treat, it may be easy to try a topical flea ointment (most have 1 dose, good for a month) but you must buy a specific product for dogs only, and one for cats only, and by the proper weight dosage.

A. Instead of a shampoo, consider a topical preventative such as Frontline. It is made for cats and dogs, is very safe and will last longer than a shampoo. Certain insecticides in dog flea shampoos, such as permethrins, can be harmful to cats. Reading labels is important before using any shampoo on a pet.
