Q. I feed a feral cat. I bought her a heated, water proof house, where she spends all of her time. I treated her how do I treat the house? Spray, powder?
DR. JENNIFER LADD, DVM
A. The best is to use hot soapy water and treat your cat for fleas every 3 weeks instead of 4. Anything fabric, wash in hot water. New fleas hatch every 10/14 days so you need to be diligent to eradicate them.
A. You can clean the bedding (wash and disinfect). If you need to treat for fleas or ticks there are powders and sprays that you can use on surfaces and fabrics. The spray is likely easier as you don't have to wash it after (check label to confirm). You need to find a spray for fabrics, furniture and household surfaces.
Thank you for taking care of this kitty, I'm sure it appreciates it.
