Q. There's a large swollen lump that is soft to the touch on the back of my dogs neck

Answered By
DR. LEIGH PUSATERI, DVM

A. It could be an abscess or some type of tumor. The best thing would be to have your dog examined by a veterinarian to determine the exact cause. Your veterinarian can do a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, if needed, to diagnose and treat the problem. If it's an abscess it will need to be drained. If it's a tumor, it may need to be removed, depending on the type and how fast it is growing.
