A. Autoimmune diseases such as ITP can be quite frustrating. The medications being given are trying to suppress the immune system enough that it stops destroying your pet's own blood cells. I always gave my patients a guarded prognosis because there is never a guarantee that the medication will be successful. First, the disease has to "plateau" and you want to see that the numbers of the blood cells stops going down.....the numbers should level out and then, hopefully they will start to increase. This often takes several days to a week before you start to see an increase in their numbers. If the treatments are not working, talk to your veterinarian about additional treatments that can be tried.
