Q. My cat snagged a claw on a bed throw and its bleeding. What is a safe treatment for it or should I just let him care for it
DR. MASSIMO ORIOLES, DVM, MRCVS
A. I would recommend to keep the paw clean with salt water bathing twice daily at least for the next 3 days. Those lesion even though not severe can bleed moderately. Bleeding can be stopped applying pressure for few minutes.
Excessive licking can bring infection to the site and worsen the situation. A buster collar would be needed if he does not stop licking. It is bester to keep your cat indoor for the next few days.
If there are any signs or swelling or any discharge or should he display any sign of lethargy, inappetence, depression then I would strongly suggest to take him to your vet for a quick check up as it may need specific treatment (antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications).
