Q. My dog loseing hair whats going on
DR. MASSIMO ORIOLES, DVM, MRCVS
A. Alopecia (hair loss) could be caused by different causes. Multiple missing patches of hair can be associated with hair follicle disruption, whereas more diffuse alopecic areas can have other causes.
A very common cause of alopecia is mange, which caused by the mite Demodex.
Other differential of hair loss are infection, trauma, an immune disease, or endocrine system abnormalities.
Other medical conditions causing hair loss, are color dilution alopecia, seasonal flank alopecia, alopecia X (“black skin diseaseâ€), acanthosis nigricans, follicular dysplasia, congenital hypotrichosis, pattern baldness and pituitary dwarfism and others.
As you can see the list of possibilities is very long the problem would need a consultation and some investigations to be identified precisely.
