Q. My cat's anus is swollen and red and she passes out loose motion unknowingly. She is a mother of four kids.
DR. MASSIMO ORIOLES, DVM, MRCVS
A. The swollen and inflamed anal region is probably secondary to the diarrhea/loose motion that she is having. Anal gland inflammation/impaction may be possible as well.
There is a long list of different possible causes of diarrhea the most common being gastrointestinal disorders (parasite infestation, inflammatory diseases, even tumors and many others).
I would recommend to try to give her a bland diet based on chicken and rice (boiled) for the next week and see if the diarrhea stops or improve. If not or if she is showing other signs such as vomiting, lethargy, inappetence I would suggest to take her to your veterinarian for a check up and more investigations. A fresh fecal sample may be useful.
