Q. My dog is shaking his head constantly so I put ear mite drops in his ears. Is this ok?
DR. MASSIMO ORIOLES, DVM, MRCVS
A. The treatment that you applied may be enough, but most commonly otitis are caused by yeast (more common) and/or bacterial infections, so other products with antibiotics (and possibly steroids to decrease the inflammation) are needed. It is quite important as well to assess the integrity of the tympanic membrane before putting any drops inside.
I would recommend to take him to your veterinarian for a check up and otoscopic examination. Your vet will be able to tell you straight away the reason of the infection/inflammation and give you appropriate treatment.
