Q. What are the symptoms of a dog with a cancerous tumor?

Answered By
DR. MASSIMO ORIOLES, DVM, MRCVS

A. The signs would really depend on the location of the tumor and on what type of cancer we are talking about.

Some cancers can cause systemic signs such as weight loss, inappetence, lethargy, body systems failure (kidney, liver and so on), some other initially can cause only localized problem such as masses, skin ulcerations, compression of surrounding tissues and many other signs.

Some cancers as well are more aggressive than others and tend to spread quite quickly in certain organs (lungs for example) some others tend to grow quickly in the same location where they are originating from.

I can be more specific if you are interested to know details about a specific type of cancer. Please do not hesitate to write other questions about it on the forum.
