Q. Maltese 13yrs Pheochromocytoma ultrasound 7cm tumor wrapping venacava inoperable? unsure how long to live have u had experience . How long to live?
DR. MASSIMO ORIOLES, DVM, MRCVS
A. The invasion of the vena cava makes the surgery quite difficult if it is not done by a specialist. The adrenal gland can be removed but it is not easy to remove the tumor completely if it attached to the vena cava. The rate of complications during the anesthesia and surgery is unfortunately quite high.
Unfortunately the prognosis is usually guarded to poor and is difficult to give you a reliable survival time.
Personally most of the cases I have seen in referrals hospital I have worked in survived not more than three months despite surgery. This only based on personal experience though.
