Q. Water on my puppies brain will it live

Answered By
DR. EVE PUGH, DVM, CVA

A. Hydrocephalus is the condition that I believe you are referring too. This particular condition can range from mild to severe. I have seen dogs not even get diagnosed until they are 10 years old. However if your puppy is already showing signs this would lead me to believe that he has a severe versions of the condition. In chihuahuas, many times they have an abnormally shaped skull and this can lead to the diagnosis without the puppy acting abnormally. Certainly a consultation with a veterinary neurologist would be helpful. Many times, it is a wait and watch situation where you just have to see how your puppy does as he gets older. However, again, if he is already showing signs- blindness, seizures, abnormal walking, jumping, etc , he probably will not live long.
