Q. Positive corona virus cat who was exposed to other cats prior to diagnosis, what are the risks to other cats and should they be tested
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS
A. risks varies but even if they catch the virus it is usually a self limiting disease in healthy cats. They get infected by ingesting the virus through licking (contact with fecal material), only a very small percentage of cats with weak immune system will later in life develop a mutation of this virus causing a fatal disease called FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). Tests for this disease are not very reliable so I wouldn't recommend testing them if you do not suspect they have it.
