Q. A bigger dog attack my little dog an butt him on the neck really bad war could I give him for pain he's just laying down an don't want to eat at all
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS
A. he could have severe soft tissue damage and is probably starting to develop an infection. He is probably very much in pain as well. To treat the infection and the pain he will need to see a vet as both antibiotics and pain killers need prescription. You cannot give your dog human pain killers either, they could extremely toxic to him. Going to the vet is the only option really, if money is a problem phone up your closest dog charity they will help you get veterinary care cheap or free.

A. This dog needs urgent veterinary attention to explore the wound and investigate and repair any injuries preventing him from eating. Dog bites commonly become very badly infected so he may also need antibiotics as well as pain relief as prescribed by a vet appropriate for the degree of injury, age and size of the dog. Do not give human pain killers as many of these have ingredients which are toxic for dogs and the dose cannot be accurately measured to a safe level. Contact your local humane societies or charities for subsidised care if necessary but do not allow him to remain in pain with such severe injuries without urgent treatment
A. Do not give any medications to your pet without the advice of your veterinarian. Have him examined and treated if necessary. Your vet can dispense antibiotics and pain management as indicated.
