Q. Hi our vet has told us today that our 13 year old dogs urine test shows that she has a pure growth of Pseudomonas . Is it contageous for us or dogs?
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS
A. Pseudomonas can in theory been transmitted to us, but it's very unlikely. Keep her area clean at all time, wash your hands after you touch her (especially if she is wet from urine) and try to keep your other dogs away just in case.
Pseudomonas will usually thrive in very wet environment and can harm immune deficient individuals mainly.
