Q. Hi! I just would like to know why my dog is vomiting bile with white thick phlegm? Is this considered an emergency?
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS
A. If he only vomited once or twice you can wait a little bit and see if it happens again. If not, withhold food for 12 hours and give him boiled chicken and rice for a couple days to ease on his stomach.
If he continues vomiting or shows no appetite, is lethargic and doesn't drink, take him to the vet ASAP.
Their could be many reasons for vomiting - spoiled food causing a GI infection, foreign body ingestion, tumor, renal failure, pancreatitis and other internal conditions.

A. It would depend on his general condition. If he had just one off episode and he is otherwise fine I would recommend to monitor him for the next 12-24 hours. Withhold food for 8-12hours and then start feeding him with some bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portions eery 4-6 hours. If the vomiting persist or you notice any other sign such as lethargy, inappetence, diarrhoea then I would recommend to take him to your veterinarian for a check up.
